November 30 2008: November eBay earnings

Filed under Money & Online with 9 Comments

The total net profit (after expenses, fees, etc.) for my ebay earnings for the month of November was just about $680AUD. It managed to cover the below listed expenses that I had in November:

  1. Name change fee: $84.60AUD
  2. Passport photos: $10AUD
  3. Passport application fee: $208.00AUD
  4. Month’s worth of petrol: $208.25AUD
  5. Mobile phone bill: $29.00AUD
  6. Home phone & internet bill: $74.39AUD
  7. Brazilian wax: $38.50AUD

So essentially, my eBay earnings managed to cover my second-largest regular expenditure (petrol), two regular monthly bills (mobile phone and home phone & internet bills), a semi-annual expenditure (Brazilian wax) and three once-off expenditures (passport and name change fees, passport photos). Not bad. Not bad at all.

Managing to make my eBay income cover these types of expenses meant that my babysitting income managed to cover my rent, my birthday celebrations (I rented a hotel room for the night which made it a lot pricier than my usual nights out. As a once-a-year expenditure however, I think it’s justified) and other expenditures (dining out, groceries, my mum’s medical bills, personal shopping, etc.), and part of my plane ticket to Europe. My retail income then went directly towards covering the rest of my plane ticket to Europe.

This means that I didn’t manage to save any money in November, but I did just about break even. In itself, it’s an impressive feat considering the number of irregular expenditures I had this month (passport and name change fees, birthday celebrations, plane ticket to Europe, etc.). I should be able to save most of what I’ll need to spend in Europe in the next month, so my bank account balance should actually stay around the $21,000AUD mark regardless of the fact that I’m taking an overseas holiday in January!

Conclusion? Green light eBay venture. As long as it continues to pay one of my largest regular expenditures, and a couple of once-off bills here and there, it’s definitely worth the effort!

November 28 2008: Inconclusive

Inconclusive. They can’t find a tear or any sign of detachment. There is however, too much blood for them to be certain, so we’re going back on Monday for them to have another look.

Basically, they don’t know shit and thus, we don’t know shit. Meanwhile, my mother’s walking around with cloudy and obstructed vision, and a constant fear that she could wake up on the weekend and not being to see.

Also: To the commenter masquerading as “Dave”, “John”, and “MJ” over the past year. It’s really easy to be snarky when you’re hiding behind an alias and a different fake email address every time (hint: next time, use a proxy instead of using the same i.p. every time). As I see you’re from Melbourne as well, I suggest you grow balls enough for a meeting in person so you can say it all to my face.

November 25 2008: No To Sponsored Casino Links

Filed under Online with 10 Comments

You know, after yesterday’s post, I would have thought that it would be clear that I don’t approve of gambling, and that it’s certainly not behaviour I would advocate in myself, let alone others. Why then, would I receive a paid link offer like the one that follows:

Hello Webmaster,

Good Day!

With good nobility and intention, I’m Jasmeen, a Web Link Specialist. I found your blog and you have some great topics. I was wondering if you had any interest in hosting a sponsored link to my client that provides online casino strategies and tips for individuals. We wouldn’t need anything big, just a couple of words to be inserted in your new post. If you have any idea how much you might charge for hosting a link, or if you have any questions I’d love to hear back from you.

Thank you very much.

He may have good nobility and intention (huh?), but the very idea is simply repellant. I replied with an offer of a million dollars - anything less than that and I’d probably end up stabbing myself in the eye out of disgust.
