Cross-Trainer

I’ve been talking on Twitter for a while now about getting an elliptical cross-trainer. I’d decided on this as the most feasible exercise method for me due primarily to recurring knee joint pain as an elliptical is supposed to be more low-impact than other exercise machines. As for why I opted for a machine rather than hitting the pavement or swimming laps – that’s due primarily to time and weather constraints. I don’t have the time any more to drive to a pool to swim laps like I used to (ah, work and study), and encroaching winter makes it impractical to count on hitting the pavement every night for a half hour. Plus, I like to multi-task – if I can jump on the elliptical while catching up on the episodes of Glee or The Big Bang Theory, I can make better use of my time!

I did a bit of research online and in shops about different models, average prices, etc. The model I wanted (Precor), would have cost me $3000AUD. Holy. Fuck. Yes I want to get fit as I’m becoming a bit of a lardarse (I’m definitely not in my best shape at the moment), but at that price? Girl has limits, and my limits were about $300AUD for a machine. Unfortunately all the machines I saw in that range in stores weren’t really of the quality I wanted. In the end, I turned to both gumtree and eBay and I ended up winning this.

Second-hand, and not of the top brand quality I wanted. But you know what? It actually fits in my small apartment (the top branded ones probably wouldn’t have, as they’re huge!) and it only cost me a total of $2.25AUD, so I ain’t complaining! I can always upgrade at a later point if I really need to, but this cheap machine will do me just fine for now!

  1. I’m super jealous that you got this thing for $2.25, and that you actually have room for it (my apartment is tiny compared to yours).
Pretty sure this bargain is at least in your top 10 all-time amazing finds?

  4. Elliptical machines are horrible for me. I get tired after even a minute on them.
Good on you for trying to get in shape again though! :D

  5. You really paid $2.25AU for that? A bottle of milk costs more over here.. What? That’s awesome!!!

I really want a cross trainer, but my boyfriend is against it, saying I can’t afford it (paying off my loan at a high cost leaves me with little left over). But I really need to get fit.. and I live ages away from any gym. I love cross trainers. I thought $300 was cheap..
