Principles and process

I’ve just received the materials for the next semester of my distance education unit for the Master of Human Service Management. The unit is creatively titled “Human Services Management: Principles and Process”. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t starting to flag and find it hard to motivate myself to focus on study. But you know, I’ve come this far, I might as well keep slogging it out till the end! It looks like I have two major pieces of assessment due this semester. A basic summary:
Assignment One: Organisational processes
4000 words due 13th April 2011, worth 40%Select a situation, incident or event from your own employment experience and analyse it by considering the specific management processes in Chapters 1-5. Include a comprehensive policy discussion evaluating the relevant organisational policies that were in place at the time of the event. Make suggestions about appropriate improvements to organisational policy based on this experience.
Assignment Two: Change management
5000 words due 1st June 2011, worth 60%Design a change management strategy for a specific organisation, based on a need identified through innovation (if possible). Analyse and critique how the relationships and tensions between managerialist, free-market and social justice principles might affect the design and implementation of the selected change management strategy.
The first assignment will be a major challenge, considering my work obligations. I have a two day conference, three office openings, one half day seminar, and four career expos to run in March and early April…not to mention normal day to day administrative tasks. If I want to have any hope of completing the assignment on time, I’ll need to essentially finish it by mid-March, or in the next two weeks. So, I pretty much have to do five weeks worth of work in two weeks, in order to have the background knowledge to do the assignment.
I know I chose to work full time and study part time for a reason – something about still earning money, furthering my career, etc. while continuing to broaden my knowledge and skill set. Sounds good in theory right? Unfortunately it’s a bit harder in practice!

I couldn’t do it. Heck, I have trouble keeping up with a measly 12 course training in PHP, because I got loaded with tasks at work. I am supposed to schedule 3 hours per week for it… yeah right… not without staying overtime.

Man, those projects look totally thrilling. But seriously, it definitely sucks that you have such a limited time to do these projects. I guess you’ll have to do some extreme time management. Good luck with everything!

Wow I would be so overwhelmed. I’m sure you will pull it off, though, and they will be absolutely amazing. It must be very hard doing all these things at once especially when deadlines come so close together but you are such a motivated and smart person and I know you will do so well in all areas.
