Apartment Photos: Living Room

This is the couch side of the living room which I’ve just finished putting together today.

I know that in interior design terms, having everything match is a bit of a faux pas. Designers prefer to have one standout item that adds character to a room. However, I like things to be uniform, clean, and modern. The touch of red is my concession to a ‘standout item’.
Cost
- Nick Scali leather couch: $1790AUD
- Four Target gunmetal cushions with black velvet pattern: $40AUD
- Oil painting purchased off eBay: $106AUD
- Two cheap do-it-yourself Ikea side tables: $39.90AUD
- One pot plant (Christmas gift from work): FREE
- One black pot: $22.50AUD
Total cost: $1998.40AUD
I know I’ve said in the past that I wanted all high quality furniture for my apartment, with nothing that requires self-assembly. After purchasing this painting though, I realised that I wanted two side tables in a standout colour to match the red in the painting. I didn’t want to pay too much for them though, recognising that considering the price, this piece of artwork is hardly an investment piece. It’s unlikely that I would keep any matching furniture for any more than a handful of years. So cheap Ikea side tables it is!
It also helps that these side tables are rather lightweight. As I don’t have a dining table or coffee table, having a lightweight side table means I can move it easily in front of the couch whenever I want to sit down for a meal in front of the TV.
What do you think?

I like it! I usually prefer living rooms to have a bright, light, and airy feel (which you do have with the natural light), but I think you’ve done the red and black color scheme very well. I love the painting, and I think if you really wanted to add something else, you could get a large plant or a lamp?

I think it’s lovely! I love red so, so much, and I think it looks great paired with the black. :)
Have you thought about painting at all? I think the walls would look lovely a nice, soft, light grey, to make the red really pop!

Looks great. The painting is awesome! I didn’t even notice the cushions until you pointed them out though lol.
I think I lamp would be great on the other side table. But if you’re wanting to move it, probably not :)
