Use Packing Tape To Prevent Blisters
January 18, 2010 | Filed under Body, Style
You know how there’s a myriad of frugal beauty tips and tricks out there?
- Use toothpaste to dry out pimples.
- Use olive oil as a hair styling product.
- Use lemon juice to naturally lighten your hair.
- Use Vaseline for pretty much anything.
Well I’ve just come up with another one. Use packing tape to prevent blisters.

The above photo obviously isn’t the best example, but imagine it with clear packing tape (about 6cm wide) instead of brown packing tape. The back of the shoe simply rubs up against the plastic instead of your skin – there’s no discomfort, and once you’re at home, you can just peel off the tape without any pain at all!
At about $2AUD for twenty metres worth (enough to last you a year, or even longer!), it’s a million times cheaper than using bandaids, or even buying those gel cushions you can stick inside shoes ($8AUD last time I saw them – ripoff!).

Eh, I’ve tried that as a last resort and it’s just come off on hot days (which is when I wear low enough shoes to cause blisters). I prefer the bandaids that are made for knuckes, I think. In the shape of… a serifed capital I. That way the bottom edge goes under the shoe, and the top part if just on your leg, and it’s flexible enough to not be uncomfortable. Packing tape, with its plasticness, is uncomfortable to me.

Genius!!

I’ve done this before! It wasn’t for frugality, though. I couldn’t find any band-aids, and was forced to use tape instead. But it worked really well, and I continue to use them. Just not in hot weather, because as Aisling pointed out, it just comes off with your sweat.

I find bandaids don’t work — the constant chafing means the bandaid comes off after a few minutes, regardless of how well I stick them on — but packing tape sounds plausible, especially ’cause it’s wider than a bandaid.

I like using footie socks, so I don’t get blisters that badly. I might try this next time, although I can’t imagine packing tape being comfortable what with the sweatiness and not letting your skin breathe!

Best advice I’ve come across so far! I think i might try this out as early as this weekend hahaa.
And RE the getting photos done a few posts back: i think it’s a brilliant idea, and it’s great you feel so good about yourself at the moment! As for the whole random parts of day thing… now i can’t really imagine the tasteful (bit of) nudity being shot like that, but definitely some array of natural looking photos :)

Brilliant!
I also use smooth bandage tape that ballet dancers use to wrap their toes in to prevent toe blisters
and blister block is wonderful

As genius as it sounds, wouldn’t it be bad for your skin as it can’t breathe and wouldn’t it hurt peeling it off? :/

I just prefer to wear shoes that don’t give me blisters in the first place. ;P I wear flip flops & sneakers mostly.

If you don’t have packing tape, you can use Band Aids instead.
Also, jojoba oil is a much more natural alternative and less messy olive oil hair styling trick

Hey that works! That’s a good one. I always use bandaids (plasters) but they are definitely much more expensive than packing tape.

Well, it’s if you don’t have packing tape! xD If you just have bandaids, or even clear tape (though not adhesive enough sometimes), you can use those instead. :3
Just depends on what you have laying around. If you’d want to journey out to prevent blisters, yeah. Definitely buy some packing tape.

Who would have thunk it? Thanks for the tip!
I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be needing some clear packing tape for tomorrow on my first day back to school after winter break.

That why I have low top stretchy sock things.

I thought using bandages on your foot to prevent blisters was pretty common? I guess tape makes more sense because it covers a larger surface area.

Ah, if only I’d read this earlier- I broke in new shoes yesterday and now my toes hurt =[
Still, noted for the future. And the toothpaste on zits thing? I swear by it!
