The Next Three Weeks
September 19, 2009 | Filed under Family & Friends, Life
Four hours ago, I dropped my parents and brother off at the airport. I now find myself facing three weeks of:
- Clearing junk out of the house – my parents are hoarders, I’m a minimalist
- Organising my mother’s paperwork into properly labelled folders
- Rearranging the furniture to my preferences
- Clearing out the garage
- Having a spotless home without a teenage boy around to mess things up
Absolute heaven! There’ll finally be order in this household – the anally retentive organiser in me is practically salivating at the thought of it.
I’ve also been given a few commissions by my parents:
- Change over phone/internet plan to another provider
- Shop around for cheaper car insurance for their car
- Arrange for our kitchen ceiling to be replastered and painted
As well as things I have to do for myself – sell the Camry, buy another car, continue going to work as per normal, look for another job, and finishing off my last assignment for this year (I am still doing my Masters, I just never talk about it!).

Why would you talk about your masters when there’s boobs to talk about?!

So, are you gonna have a crazy party at your house to celebrate?? :P

My mom likes to keep everything. I try every so often to get in the house to clean but since I don’t live there it makes it hard. But I totally feel you with the teen age boy. My b/f is 21 going on 15 with house cleaning. Boys will be boys! :D

I wish I was like you. I am organised, but not hardcore. I could always do with a kick up the bum so I get things sorted. My parents are messy, but luckily I’m not living with them.

I could use someone to come and organise my paperwork into labelled folders! I do that once every.. ooh I don’t know… 3-4 months? I hate doing it!

Oh wow, lots of things to do. I think my entire family is minimalist, so I don’t have problems with extra things sticking out everywhere.

Wow, you’re going to be busy. At the same time, though, you’re going to have tons of fun. :D Good luck with getting everything done!

Monica Gellar?
Or at least, you guys are in the same cleaning/organizing heaven right now.

Wow, sounds busy with them gone! Last time my parents were out of town, I neglected some chores (mostly out of spite, because they assigned my brother nothing) but I did them all the night before they came home. I spent most of my time with my boyfriend :P good luck completing all your tasks.

Despite that list I can just tell you’re itching to do it all out of pleasure and enjoyment! To be honest, I would too, such a sense of satisfaction when things are done exactly the way you like. Funny how there’s no mention of the guilty pleasures of allll the Dylan time you can now have… in your own home!

I love it when my mom and sister go away, because then the house is *quiet.* My sister stomps everywhere, and so does my mom, though not as loud. Also, they’re kind of pigs, so I get to clean everything and live in a clean house for even just a weekend.
