July 13 2009: Not Spawning Yet

It’s official. I am not expecting a Dylanda spawn (Felisa, I love the name).

pregnancy test

Pregnosis Clear told me so, and considering the circumstances and how financially and situationally unequipped I currently am to spawn with a clear conscience, I’m placing my trust in their 99%+ accuracy (in lab tests apparently…), especially when combined with my Implanon’s 99.9% effectiveness.

I did some Googling on the brand after I did the test actually, and found some online chemists where I can buy a pack of two tests for $6AUD cheaper than I bought it for in store. I’m tempted to buy a few and keep them handy in a drawer, so I can test myself each month. After all, it’s not as though I’m going to be warned about potential spawnage by the lack of a period when I’m already not getting them on my birth control!

It would certainly put my mind at rest, as I spent a restless night being paranoid over the possibility of being pregnant. I had been writing off my lack of menstruation as a hormonal birth control thing, and didn’t even consider pregnancy as a cause until I was writing last night’s entry and included the possibility of it as a “lol” factor. Once I thought of it however, that was all I could think of, and I lay awake all night fretting and being paranoid about being knocked up. If I had a backup supply of pregnancy tests, at least I could get rid of such worries immediately with a test.

  1. Possibilities of you being pregnant were of course very slim but it’s good you considered it and were courages enough to test yourself to see where you’re at.

I can imagine losing sleep over it though, been there done that, but it might be handy indeed to keep some test close at hand just to be sure.

  2. I had a pregnancy scare a couple of months ago. My period’s always been pretty regular, and stress never seemed to affect that. I came off the pill back in February, had an extremely light, one-day-long period at the end of march, and then my period ceased to exist for the next month and a half. The last time before that I’d had sex was mid-March, and I’d used protection. But condoms aren’t 100% effective, and I was off the pill by then.

One thing led to another and I was well on my way to a panic attack, because if I WAS pregnant, the spawn would have been from the guy I’m currently trying to divorce. Within hours of my meltdown (at work, none the less), I bought a pregnancy test that informed me that I was sans fetus. A gyno appointment a couple days later confirmed that, and then they gave me medication to force my period so I could go back on the pill.

The medication they gave me was a 7-day regimen of super hormones (of course, it turned me into a beast), and I was supposed to get my period 3 days after I finished them. Yeah, I didn’t get it until a week after I finished them.

But~ I’m not pregnant, which is the important part lol. But I totally feel your pain when it comes to having a pregnancy scare.

  3. I do the same thing. I mean, the idea of me being pregnant makes me laugh because I am in no way ready for children. But then I think about it for a while… And it makes me go a bit nuts!

  4. Argh, yeah, I get super paranoid of that too, despite a religiously regular pill taking regimen. I can just imagine the furor it would cause if I did get pregnant. That, and shoot, I have a hard time taking care of myself – much less a teeny tiny thing that is so much more demanding than me :P.

  5. I think it’s a good idea to test every month, especially if you drink any alcohol. Just to be safe. :D

Do you have dollar stores where you are? The ones here sell pregnancy tests for $1 each versus the grocery store ones which are anywhere from $12-20 for a two-pack, and the dollar store ones are just as (if not more) effective. (Apparently, they are more sensitive to the chemical – I think peeonastick.com has more info.)

  6. I usually miss periods, no idea why. I was told by my doctor two years ago that it was a “hormone imbalance”. You can imagine how many times I thought I was pregnant, heh. Weird how bodies can be.

  7. Haha that’s the best name ever. That needs to be the name of your first child!! Okay, well maybe not.

Personally, I just wait for my period but if you think it would make you feel better and you can afford it, it couldn’t hurt.

  8. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome often tricks my body into thinking it has all the symptoms of pregnancy, bar an actual foetus in my womb so I’ve taken to stocking up on pregnancy tests too.

I doubt I even have ovaries any more, but it still freaks me out when it seems I may be pregnant.

  9. Darn it. Guess that means I have to return the baby booties?

  10. Whew, that’s good to hear. It does sound like a good idea to test yourself each month. if anything, you’ll at least know what is going on in your body.

  11. I took a pregnancy test once before when my period was late – I got the supermarket generic brand – a two-pack for a fraction of the cost of brand named tests and with the same rate of accuracy.

I’ve actually become quite dubious about brand named drugs – you can usually get generic brand drugs that contain EXACTLY THE SAME CHEMICALS at 1/2 the price or less. I buy ‘value health’ antihistamines that are 99p when compared with something like Piriton which costs what, £3? And I always laugh at people who buy the brand named Nurofen. It’s just ibuprofen, the patent ran out on it years ago. You can buy the same as a generic brand for 50p.

  12. Is it weird that I’m a little disappointed that you’re not expecting? I mean, it’s definitely the more ideal result but a Dylanda spawn? That would have been awesome!
