Masochistic Swimming
April 26, 2009 | Filed under Body
I’m a sucker for self-punishment, especially when certain aspects of life aren’t quite going the way that I expect them to. It’s somewhat masochistic of me, I’ll admit that willingly. It’s like I punish myself for things going awry – things that aren’t necessarily even a result of my own actions.
Anyway, this morning, this masochistic self-punishment took the form of forcing myself to swim laps in the 50metre unheated outside pool, rather than the 25metre heated inside pool at my local swimming complex. To put things into perspective, it was about 12 degrees celsius this morning, with strong winds at 16km/hr. I was the only one masochistic enough to subject my body to swimming in an unheated pool outside in this weather.
To be fair, swimming in these conditions is particularly motivational, as you’ll never want to actually stop swimming and take a rest. It’s only when you’re continually swimming and moving your body through the water that you manage to keep warm and stop your extremities from becoming numb. Once you stop and take a rest, you begin to freeze – so to avoid that, I ended up swimming nonstop for about two hours.
It was a fantastic workout session, and I got that satisfying burning feeling in your shoulders that you get when you swim too long and too hard, but oh, the long-term costs of such brutal exercise! I’m paying for it now with a nose that’s preparing itself to be congested and blocked for the next week. I’m going to have a godawful cold, and I brought it all upon myself…on purpose.
I am a sick motherfucker.

=/ Oddly enough I sorta understand…sorta…like only about the bringing on the cold. I can feel myself getting sick the later I stay up and study, but I do it anyway. Losing my voice sometimes is a welcome so I don’t speak to people.
That being said, colds suck. And I don’t know how you could handle that. I’d freeze to death and wimp out just looking at the conditions.

Eat some carrots and parsley, and you’ll be fine!
After swimming in a pool like that, the best thing to do is go and jump into the indoor pool. It; feels like you’re jumping into a hot spa.

You do know this is far from kinky, right?

Wow…
I went length swimming too today! But it was at an indoor pool :P I love the burning feeling you get afterwards.
Hope you don’t get too sick!

I love swimming, I had planned to go swimming every morning but my health has let me down lately so that’s off the to do list for now.
Anyway, maybe chicken soup might help for your blocked nose. That might sound weird but for me, I always have an unblocked nose after eating it. Or, if that doesn’t help. Cut up a raw onion in a few pieces and leave it next to your bed at night, it helps for unblocking too.
