Creaming
March 30, 2009 | Filed under Body, Uni/Work
I think it’s time again for me to highlight my immaturity with a post about something that made me snigger and giggle like a ditzy teenage schoolgirl. When doing some readings for my epic assignment due next week (look Ma, I’m not procrastinating anymore!), I came across the following:
Creaming – that is, the admission to service programs of only those persons for whom successful outcomes are most likely to occur under any circumstances
You see, when I read the word “creaming”, I don’t think of a highly specificed selective process for human service programs. Instead, it makes me think of sex, and a level of arousal that is so high that one either starts producing pre-cum or starts self-lubricating, e.g. “I was so turned on, that I creamed my pants”.
I know I’m not the only one whose first instinct would be to think of something sex-related, rather than the more obscure human service term. Out of likelihood of usage, I’d actually assume a hierarchy as allows:
- Sex: I was so turned on, that I creamed my pants.
- Food: That’s a good cake, but I’ll improve it further by creaming it (e.g. slathering on a layer of cream).
- Human Services: That program has an unwritten policy of creaming for better statistical results.
Sex above food above human services, as per Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Out of curiosity, which is the more likely usage for you? Are you more inclined to think of sex, food, or human service programs when you hear the word “creaming”?

I picture sex..with whipped cream everywhere. However, the food example also reminds me of sex…

I was actually thinking of food, as in “I need more creamer for my coffee.”
But seeing as though this is the blog of Amanda, I’d figure ‘cream’ would lead to something sexually related. As a result, my train of thought proceeded in that direction.

Hehe. I’d say food first then sex then human services… not that I have ever needed to use that term in the latter two instances.
I do know what you mean about thinking something was of a sexual nature…. like Flo Rida’s new song… -___- (not so innocent anymore… ><)

I knew what this entry was going to be about the instant I clapped eyes on the subject. :P

I saw your blog title in my feed reader, and I too immediately thought of sex :P
This perhaps has more to do with your tendency to blog about sexual things, than my dirty mind :P

“creamed my pants” is one of those utterances that makes me shudder. It’s just so…blech.
(not that it isn’t fun getting there, but I don’t like hearing it described)

I work at a bakery and we serve coffee and tea so I use the word “cream” a lot. But every single time I do, I feel a little dirty because I’m definitely thinking about whipped cream and how much it enhances a lot of things… and activities.

The first thing I think of is being clobbered by someone or overwhelmingly defeated or something, like “They totally creamed the opposing team at the home game.”

The first, of course. Especiallly when reading your blog.

Well, I thought of sex because it was an entry by YOU! Normally I would’ve thought of food. :P
I’ve never even heard of that third meaning before…

Sadly, I also thought of sex first… also, I’ve never heard of it in a human services definition before either. Huh?? They’re just making things up to confuse us.

Well, after reading THIS article…

Cream is good.
But I didn’t know that word could also be used for human services. Then again, sex is a human service…

LOL, my first thought was obviously sex, but it was also because it was YOUR blog title. And then cake… and maybe if I dig further I could think of the cream of society”. But I never knew about the human services related meaning.

Haha, when I saw the title I automatically thought “What is Amanda doing now?!?!” so yeah – sex was the first thing for me. Plus another million things before human services which would probably be at the bottom of the list. xP

Food AND sex at the same time, naturally. Are the two supposed to be clearly separated? :P
