Burned

February 22, 2009 | Filed under Body

I went swimming at the local pool today, swam 10km worth of breaststroke, and got this as a result:

bad tan

It’s much worse in person. But, not as bad as the burn on my face, which is everywhere except for where my goggles were. I have a goggles burn, and will end up with a goggles tan. I. Will. Look. Like. A. Freak. MOTHERFUCKER.

Conclusion: Exercise for exercise’s sake should be strongly discouraged.

  4. I had a burn like that a couple of weeks ago, when my school made me go to its annual swimming carnival. I didn’t even swim — I sat in the shade ALL DAY with SPF 35+ sunscreen on, and I got really, really burnt. My face swelled up. It was horrid.

    I feel your pain. :(

  6. Ouch D: Just looking at it is painful… Indoor pools, ftw.

  7. You got that from SWIMMING? Wow. Whenever I get burnt, it’s from “tanning” on the beach. (But I kind of like sunburns, because I love peeling the skin.)

The worst burn I had was one on the backs of my knees – it made it impossible to bend them without extreme pain.

  8. Aww ouch :[

I hope your goggle tan isn’t too visible… Hehe.

  9. Sounds like any activity involving friction (like… rubbing against sheets forcefully?) will have to be put off for a bit while that heals…

    And LOL @ goggles tan.

  12. nooo sunburn = DNA damage. Your natural repair mechanisms can only do so much.

but ouch, that looks so painful. I’m a chicken when it comes to sun, so it hasn’t happened. And I hope your goggle tan isnt too bad!

  13. That’s never happened to me, but that’s probably because I don’t spend much time doing laps (read: never). :P

  14. 10km worth of breaststroke just for the sake of doing it? Woah, strong woman.
Looks like you need lots of Aloe Vera

  15. I want to see your goggle tan!
That sentence sounds strangely dirty…I’m almost glad that I burn.

  17. It’s so easy to get sun burnt in Australia. It’s crazy. If Im in the sun for an hour or more, I just go bright red.

    Belinda on February 23, 2009 #

  18. LMAO! A goggle tan is awful ;)

    Tracy on February 23, 2009 #

  19. You should have used waterproof sunblock! Anyway, I always get a goggles tan, since I wear glasses :P

    Emsz on February 24, 2009 #

  20. Wow that looks really painful!! :(

    Caity on February 24, 2009 #

  21. aww poor thing, I hope it feels better. Maybe that’s a lesson for you to use good sunblock. I’m a swimmer (although the weather isn’t nearly as hot as it is in Australia) and I always use good sunblock. You burn even harder in the water, especially with a little bit of wind.
