What’s Up With Me

February 6, 2009 | Filed under Life

My life has changed quite dramatically since I returned from England almost two weeks ago. My LiveJournal friends will have some clue what’s going on (I’ve written a few friends-only entries), but a basic summary:

  1. I lost my job. The maternity store that I worked at closed down while I was away. I was informed of the closure when I returned via phone call from another staff member, and despite attempts on my part to contact the owners, they’ve yet to return my calls or emails. This after working for them loyally for three years when I could have earnt more elsewhere. I’m disgusted. I do still have my babysitting job so I’m not destitute, but I am pinching my pennies more than I already was.
  2. I broke up with the dude fellow. Long story short, parts of me changed as a result of the experiences I had on my travels and the people I met and did things with, and it wasn’t a change that was conducive to maintaining the relationship. It wasn’t exactly amicable, but, eh, whatever.
  3. I’ve started seeing a few former guy buddies again. A girl has needs that can only be met by someone who has a penis and who’s already familiar with her body and what she likes. My arrangement is ideal because while we’re attracted to each other enough to want bodily contact, we don’t get along well enough to consider a relationship. It’s the ideal no-strings-attached relationship.
  4. I graduated from university with a Distinction average (though I haven’t had the ceremony yet). Technically, I graduated at the end of last year at the end of my last exam, but it wasn’t finalised until last week when I finally got around to getting them to stamp a “course completed” on my academic record.
  5. I’m stuck in a state of limbo until I hear back about the Masters course I applied for. Until I find out one way or another as to whether I got in or not, I can’t apply for jobs as I don’t know what my availability will be like. So for the first time in my adult life, I’ve had no school, uni, or work to fill my days with. I’m relaxing and chilling out for the first time in almost a decade (my holidays don’t count, as they’re always jampacked with activities).
  6. I’ve been spending my days either at the beach or pool as a result of the above point. Not one day has gone by since my return without a trip to either – I’m developing a good tan, though it’s a bit uneven. Night-time swimming at the beach is really the only way to combat the string of 40+ degree (celsius) days we had last week.

With all that said, I’m going to be away from Saturday (tomorrow) to Tuesday, as I’ll be going to Adelaide. My cousin and I bought plane tickets in a sale about nine months ago, and ended up getting return flights for $15AUD each. We plan on visiting the wineries and vineyards in the greater Adelaide region (they’re renowned in Australia), as well as doing a bit of shopping and touristy sight-seeing.

With accommodation and car hire, our four days in Adelaide will end up costing us about $190AUD each, so including spending money and eating out, we’ll have a four day holiday for about $400AUD…not too shabby, and a nice way to fulfill my first new year’s resolution.

  1. Sorry about your job and the dude person but oh well…

On the other hand, you’re back with the 6-hour-long beast of a man?? That will give you something to do. :P That’s 2 hours short of a full-time shift.

  3. Aah that sucks about losing your job. Ra ra about the economy these days… (you know more than me so I’ll let you fill in the complaints), but at least your a person who knows how to efficiently earn/save/use money! You’ve got that over quite a lot of people.

Noo dude person. Barely heard about you before and now your gone. Sorry dude, bye =S lol
But woah, like the above comment, welcome the 6-hour-long man. Nice trade girl ;) haha

How in the world did you get tix for $15? AIRPLANE tix?! Are you secretly in the mafia? Enjoy your trip!

  4. Oh I’m sorry. Losing your job was unexpected (for me). How do they close down so quickly and without any notice? How unprofessional and downright rude of them.

Didn’t you have feelings for the dude person? I don’t know, I think I’m a hopeless romantic or something, but I hope you didn’t hurt him.

Good luck. Enjoy this “free” time, cause you know…maybe in a month you’re back on track, fully booked.

  5. I have to admit I felt a little teary when I read you got a Distinction. I guess I’m also emotional cause of my own impending graduation, but none-the-less congratulations!

Sorry about losing your job and the dude-person. You’re a resourceful lady, and I’m sure things will work out in your advantage.

Good luck with the masters :)

  6. How rude (to say the least) of the owners of the store to not contact you personally about the closure and even worse, that they’re not returning your emails or calling you back. So much for gratitude.

Congrats on graduating, it must be a great feeling!

Have fun in Adelaide though :)

  11. I’m sorry you had to find out about your job loss in such an impersonal way, especially after all of the time and energy invested! But maybe this is life’s way of giving you the opportunity to unwind and explore different options at a slower pace =P Good luck on your Masters application!

  12. Uhh, whoa. I’m surprised your employers didn’t let you know about the store closing. That sucks, to come back and find that your job is gone.

But hurray for graduating with Distinction! That sounds really good (right?). I wish I weren’t so lazy; I’d like to graduate with good grades but like I said, lazy. I’m all right with both Bs and A-s…

  13. I’m sorry about your job, that’s pretty low for them to not even contact you back after working for them for so long!

Relaxing at beach or a pool sounds so nice right now. Enjoy it :)
