UK: Brighton, Mainly
January 14, 2009 | Filed under Travel
Hello from picturesque Alton! It’s a little rustic town pretty much in the heart of England, mere minutes from where Jane Austen, my literary idol spent most of her life. I’ll be heading over to Chawton (the particular area where she lived) early tomorrow morning for a bit of a wander around – unfortunately the Jane Austen Museum itself won’t be open (it’s only open on weekends in peak season which I couldn’t fit into my schedule), but I’m fairly certain that I can walk around the grounds which is better than nothing.
Since my last entry, the “Great Snark Meetup 09″ obviously took place – I needn’t say too much about it now (again, I’ll cover it when I return to Melbourne and have more time in front of a screen) as the other bloggers have already said a bit about it.
After the meetup, I went on to Brighton on Sunday night. I managed to meet a really nice guy on the train, a student at the University of Brighton, who took me to my hostel, and then took me out to a few nightspots in Brighton. I had my first taste of cider, had a bartender spend fifteen minutes making me a really elaborate cocktail, and caused myself to oversleep for the next day when I met Lils in Portsmouth…where we had a car accident. Don’t panic, we’re both alright, but the stupid fucking teenage skank ho bitch cunt slut who backed into the car better get a case of fucking whiplash as karma. Spent last night in Brighton again with the same guy and his friends, where I drank more cider, was introduced to mead, and ended up getting to bed at 4am in the morning.
Interestingly enough, I didn’t actually end up doing the touristy stuff in Brighton that I actually went there to do (e.g. Royal Pavilion), but in skipping that kind of stuff, probably had a more authentically English experience. Going out with local students in the party and gay capital of England? You don’t pass that opportunity up! I loved it, and the city’s nightlife. I could definitely envision myself living in Brighton, if only for a year or two if I had no commitments.
In any case, since my last post, I have also been to Stonehenge. In addition to my planned excursion to Jane Austen tomorrow, will be heading to Bath for some more Jane Austen activities, as well as meeting my friend Ruth for dinner in Bristol! For the rest of the week: Stratford-upon-Avon, Cambridge, then Manchester to meet up with Tanya, Jenny and Catherine!

Wow, how truly epic! I love meeting people upon my travels :) Does everyone there drink Pims all the time? This is what I have heard, at least. Have fun in Chawton tomorrow, and Bath and everywhere else!
(SO JEALOUS. ARGH.)

You’ve seen more the country since you’ve been here than I have in my entire life. That’s quite sad really.

You went (or are going) to places I have been to as well. Brighton is nice, Bath is beautiful and Stratford-upon-Avon is just gorgeous! Well that is if you like strolling around cities looking at the architecture and the overall city ambiance!

I would LOVE to go visit Brighton, it sounds like an awesome place plus one of my good online friends lives there and I really want to meet her! Bath is really, really beautiful – aside from London, it was my favorite place in England when I visited a year ago!

Thanks to you that stupid fucking teenage skank ho bitch cunt slut will be held liable. Instead of trying to pin it on me.
I’m 99.9% certain I will go to London. As in only an adverse situation will stop me from going :p
