New Year’s Resolutions Fail

December 26, 2008 | Filed under Life

As we’re coming up to the end of the year, I’ve been working on a couple of entries that will be published within the space of two days. They range from the regular monthly posts (Reviews In Ten Words, Ebay Report, etc.), to the reflections on the year past (“best of” entries for the year, etc.).

I was looking back at my aims/resolutions that I listed at the start of the year, and realised exactly how much I had failed in achieving what should be relatively simply tasks. Out of the ten aims, I ended up failing five and a half of them (elaboration in a few days). That’s a majority fail. Therefore, I majorly failed, and the entire year could be viewed as a failure.

But, all is not lost. I have four days to turn my fail into a win, four days to actually be proactive and do something that brings me a step closer to achieving a goal. Too bad I’m not actually going to have any time to myself in the next four days to actually do so…

  1. There has really been a not-so-positive vibe emanating from this blog lately.

At least you have room for improvement next year.

  2. 5/10 is a better average than I managed on 2008′s resolutions. It’s time for me to start thinking about what I’ll fail to do in 2009! XD I have a hard time finding the balance between “good idea” and “practical”.

I’m actually looking forward to your analysis of which you did and which you didn’t live up to. In the meantime it’s a bit like a guessing game. I think I didn’t see as many “look at my awesome ebay score” and “see how awesomely little I paid for this designer stuff” posts this year, and you did start your ebay business, so I’m betting you kept the financial resolutions.

  4. eh, don’t worry, no one keeps their resolutions. I managed to keep mine, since I only made one and that was to begin undergraduate research. Yesterday I took out my ochem book and reviewed for graduate entrance exams…that’s more than I expected! Low expectations, haha jk :P

  5. Like Jack said, 50% success is pretty good when it comes to new year’s resolutions!

  6. As weird as it may sound, I never actually did set any New Year’s resolutions. Maybe it’s because I didn’t think I would actually keep them or something?

But for this next year, I have one: go to bed earlier (maybe 11pm, instead of…1/2/3am). And I will focus all my energies on it. <[ But I’m impressed with your 5/10. :D Good work.
