Kylie X 2008 Tour: 20 December 2008
December 21, 2008 | Filed under Australia, Media
There’s one thing detractors should understand: the appeal of Kylie Minogue lies not in her (admittedly limited) vocal abilities, but rather in her as a performer. The woman knows how to put on a good show with enough theatrics, glitz, glitter, and glamour to entertain even the most hard-nosed critics. I like to think of her as the last bastion of a great theatrical tradition that includes acts like the Ziegfield Follies.
The concert was doubly sweet for her I’d imagine. Not only does she get the adrenaline rush that would come with every performance, but also the added knowledge that as a home town Melbourne girl (I went to the same high school as her!), the audience have loved and embraced her as one of the family since her days as Charlene on Neighbours. She’s “our Kylie”, much like Nicole Kidman is “our Nic”, and Hugh Jackman is “our Hugh” (You New Zealanders can have Russell Crowe back thanks, we don’t want to claim him anyway). We feel close enough to her to have demanded her to recreate Beyonce’s Single Ladies film clip last night with her two backup singers (she did it, it was hilarious).
The concert ticket was purchased for the low price of $36AUD on eBay, down from the original price of $149AUD. I usually hesitate in buying single tickets as I prefer sharing concert experiences with a friend, but at 24% of the cost price, I really couldn’t say no.
And in my opinion? The experience was totally worth the money I paid – so much so that next time, I might even pay full price for the experience. Go see Kylie Minogue in concert the next chance you get. She’ll entertain you. Guaranteed.

Looks fun, if you are a Kylie fan…I won VIP Kylie tickets a couple of years ago through a radio station but I swapped them for Delta tickets…

Wow. You are LUCKY.
And you’re dead on with the performer thing. You don’t go to see Kylie if you want to here Celine.
Recreate Beyonce? BUT I LOVE ME SOME BEYONCE.

Dude, some of the less intelligent New Zealanders tried to get Russell Crowe back and you guys were all ‘NO! Fuck off! He’s OURS!’ Therefore, you DO want to keep him. If you didn’t, we’d have him back already!

Kylie’s music is not really my cup of tea, although I can really enjoy it sometimes when I’m in the car driving home or something.
I’m sure the concert was great though, as shows like that are usually not just for the music and the performance but more for the ambiance and the whole package together, and I’m convinced that Kylie knows how to create that!

What I don’t understand is why the British love her so much. Or why they love Neighbours so much, for that matter.

Kylie Minogue looks great with her 80’s attire. I support most of her albums. She is a good singer. I love her
