Baking, Shopping, Going Off

December 9, 2008 | Filed under Money, Style

Alex came over for a while this afternoon today, and we did a bit of baking. Taste-wise, the chocolate chip muffins were a success, though they sort of took on the shape of cupcakes rather than muffins.

The oatmeal cookies were another story – they were salty to the point of being of being inedible. My mother insists that I mistakenly put in salt rather than sugar, though as I used the same sugar as I did for the muffins, that’s obviously not the problem. My father is inclined to think that the oats used were flavoured, which is by far the more preferable option because it would mean that it wasn’t a fault on my part, and rather my mother’s as she was the one who bought the oats.

We (Alex and I) also managed to make our way to DFO Moorabbin for a bit of late-afternoon shopping as a treat after our efforts in the kitchen. I managed to pick up:

  1. 1x Grey Corporate Skirt from Review: $10AUD from $159.95AUD
  2. 1x Blue/White Preppy Knit Dress from Peter Alexander: $19.50AUD from $79.90AUD (though this one was essentially free as I purchased it with a giftcard that I received as a present)
  3. 2x Steve Madden tartan flats (one red, one yellow): $20AUD for both from $39.95AUD each. Alex got a pair of the same for free, because it was three for the price of two, and they didn’t have the green version in my size. :(

So, baking was good and shopping was good. What wasn’t good was coming home and having my mother go off at me because I got a speeding ticket. Woe.

  1. I wish they have factory outlets over here. Looks like you got those clothes and shoes for a bargain!

  2. How I wish we had factory outlets in here so I could go and buy cheap stuff. It’s quite unfair come to think that some US products such as Hollister and A&F are manufactured here. :( We only have some surplus shops and honestly, they’re not really the best quality…

  3. My sister added a wrong amount of salt once :P The cookies were somewhat edible.
Turns out she add a tablespoon instead of a teaspoon xD

  5. I’ve never been a fan of chocolate chip muffins, I don’t know why. I prefer fruity muffins, I guess.

  6. This is going to sound so odd, but I do love chocolate chip muffins.. especially when they’re warm and with butter on them. Of course I’d have to have a glass of milk with it too, but :P

  7. So what exactly is the difference between a muffin and a cupcake, anyway? I always associated muffins with breakfast. But the chocolate chip ones muffins almost seem more like cupcakes now that I think about it.
