November 5 2008: Best Birthday Present Ever

It was only four years ago that I was on my Freewebs site, cursing all Americans for their stupidity in re-electing George Bush. And today? Best. Birthday. Present. Ever. Thank you America. You’ve made me very happy. You’ve made the whole world very happy, and your respect rating just skyrocketed.

New theme as well, in support of the victory, modelled somewhat on Obama’s own website. I debuted it somewhat early in the count, when Ohio was called for Obama, because I knew from that point that we had won. We’d won. Yes we can? Yes we have.

I love you all. It’s been a fantastic birthday. I’ve been crying all day because I’ve just been so emotionally moved by what I was witnessing. We’ve just witnessed history taking place. The world will become a better place.

  2. Ok, you received both prawns AND a victory for Obama for your birthday. I declare this totally unfair. But I would like to take this opportunity to invade your comments.

    HURRAY FOR OBAMA!

    OBAMA!

    OBAMA!

    *dances*

  6. My friend and I remembered right at the end of school to look up the results of the election. We both cheered! It’s very, very gladdening that McCain and Palin are getting nowhere near the White House — they’re hilarious, but hilarity does not a good ruler of the world make. If that makes any sense at all.

  9. I am so happy that this happened - we got to witness history!

I only wish I could have been an American for a day and been able to vote for Obama.

  10. Yuck. Seriously.

But on the flipside, at least McCain didn’t win.

  11. FUCK YEAH, RIGHT?

I started running around Berkeley with a huge mob. There’s another one going now, but I’m too tired to do that again.

  12. *YAY* WOOHOOO :D:D

  13. I am really happy too. It was a bit anticlimactic since we ended up so far ahead, but who cares, it saved us all some nerves.

And yeah, this is completely a historical election, but we have a lot of work to do. So I celebrated *yay* and all, but I’m not as emotional and crazy happy as everyone else. I really am relieved, maybe just cynical. But seriously if Palin was our VP elect, I would cry.

  18. Well, I don’t think Obama can change world history, the man is just a man. It’s nice to hope though…

I might be an ignorant when it comes to politics but how is Obama going to change the world? (Not that I’d ever have voted McCain…oh no).

  19. YAYYYYYYYY!!!!! I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!

Also, I really love this layout! The only thing is that your comments get stuck under your sidebar, and it looks a little sloppy. :P

  23. Happy Birthday X_X;; Even if I am a bit late.

And YAY FOR OBAMA. WHOO HOO.

(And no, not all Americans voted for Bush, hahaha. I certainly didn’t.)

Btw, love the new look! ^_^

  24. I knew he would win the whole time, especially once he got Pennsylvania. I was mainly watching Florida since that was pretty important and it seemed to be flipflopping around a bit!

But oh my god, Prop 8. D: It pisses me off so much. I hope they revisit it shortly!

My dad cried last night too. I didn’t cry, but I did feel really emotional.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  25. I’ll believe it when I see it….

I’m a bit more skeptical about *change*. Politics will unfortunately be politics whether you’re white, black, brown, yellow or female or male.

There have been female leaders of state in the past in other countries and very little has changed. There could be many reasons for it, but I don’t foresee it being any different for Barack Obama. (not that he’s female)

One thing everyone needs to realise is that GW Bush fucked up so badly that anyone will look *great* coming in behind.

Anyway, that’s my two cents and a half.

  26. I’m so happy! I’ve never been prouder of my country, and I’m optimistic about what’s to come. :)

I almost cried throughout most of Obama’s speech. I’m so glad we did it! WE DID IT!

    Alyssa on November 6 2008 #

  27. I’m hoping he won’t be a disappointment to the American people at this point. He’s built up so much hype. I don’t believe it, but the American public does, and he better deliver, as far as I’m concerned. I want to be proven wrong. I want him to be amazing.

I am proud that America is leading the first-world nations of white majorities by having a minority commander-in-chief. It’s a huge stride for a country that less than 50 years ago had people being hosed, lynched and attacked simply for the color of their skin. It is truly remarkable, and is another nail in the coffin for racism.

    Stephanie on November 6 2008 #

  28. YAY OBAMA!! The whole thing made me cry, too.

This theme is gorgeous… and happy birthday!

    Kaylee on November 6 2008 #

  29. Happy belated birthday! And how fantastic is this! I was so happy when Obama won, I happy-danced for a bit :)

Yeah, I think basically everyone knew it was over once Ohio and Pennsylvania went to Obama- all we had to do was wait for it to be officially announced. Love the theme, very bright :)

Hope you had fun celebrating both this, and your birthday :)

    Carmen on November 6 2008 #

  30. *cheers*

Happy birthday! I’m so glad America could do something right for the world on your birthday. :)
