Petty Dislike no.1: When They Don’t Put Enough Cookies In Cookies’n'Cream Ice cream

I would have imagined that the placement of the word “cookies” in the title (e.g. before the word “cream”) would ensure that the ratio of cookies to cream would err on the side of 60/40, or 70/30, or even 80/20. A ratio of 55/45 of cookies to cream should be the bare minimum. Any ratio that results in the cream getting more mouth time than the cookies will undoubtedly result in clearly inferior cookies’n'cream ice cream.

This same concept can be applied to anything relating to gastronomy. Sweet and sour pork should be more sweet than sour. Mint chocolate chip ice cream should have more mint than chocolate chip. Raspberry-flavoured lemonade should have more raspberry than lemonade. And my perennial favourite: tequila sunrises should have more tequila than ’sunrise’. A mere dash of tequila is insufficient, for a truly exceptional drink, there should be more tequila than orange juice.

Bulla, let that be a lesson to you. Your ice cream won’t be receiving my hard-earned dollars until I receive a refund for the inferior cookies’n'cream experience.

  1. Kit Kat Cookies and Cream chunk is heaven.

  2. I feel the same way about mixed nuts and when there isn’t enough cashews. :( I guess cashews are more expensive or something.

  3. Oh yeah. I agree that it relates to most gastronomy, but my main problem is definitely when there is not enough liquor in a drink. That is just unacceptable!

  4. LOL I said the same thing the other day to Carl when he bought me some Cookies’n’Cream ice cream, I said “for cookies and cream there isn’t much cookies!”

  5. Woah, I’ve always thought about the opposite ratio for everything you said except for the tequila sunrise. I’ve always seen the first word as like, an adjective to the rest of the noun :\. So more cream than cookies for me. Not a lot, but def more. And more choc chips than mint O_o.

  6. I imagine that anything more than a 55/45 ratio would mess with the ideal texture of the ice cream.

  7. But wouldn’t more cookies than cream mean that it would be a solid crunch lump with a little bit of runny bits? How would you eat it with a spoon? o_O

  8. I agree about the ice-cream (although not too much, because then it would defeat the point of an ice… cream).
IMO, sweet and sour should be equal. There will always be more mint than chocolate chips, but I wouldn’t mind more chocolate. And isn’t the point of raspberry lemonade is that it is first and foremost LEMONADE, but also with raspberry added. Nobody wants it all weak and disgusting, but I don’t think that the raspberry should go above 50% of the lemonade.
And I can’t comment on the sunrise thing :P

  9. I tasted Bulla ice cream before. It was okay, but since it was more expensive than the other ice creams and that we didn’t really like it, we decided to no longer buy it. I’d go for Cadbury, but then I don’t think they have Cookies and Cream. The only Cookies and Cream I ate (and loved a lot) was by Walls.

  10. Haha, I totally agree! Cookie dough ice cream NEVER has enough cookie dough bits in it. They should rename to Vanilla ice cream with 5 or 6 bits of cookie dough! XD

  11. Nestle has the best Cookies n’ Cream ice cream, ever. Hmm, what I don’t like is those Starbuck’s Frappuccinos having more ice than the actual drink… it makes me a sad not-caffeinated-enough teenager, hahaha.

  12. What kind of fool makes cookies and cream ice cream without any cookies?

  13. Hahaha, you have the most random, awesome thoughts and I love your blog. :)

I agree, though! Now I feel jipped.

  14. I agree wholeheartedly- there’s a tub of Cookies’n'Creme in my freezer and you can see that my sisters dig into the places where there’s a concentration of cookie chunks and all that’s left is the vanilla with specks of cookie =(

  15. I totally agree, although they probably just put the words in the order that sounds best :P

I hate it when Cookies’n'Cream doesn’t have enough cookie because I love the cookie part so much. Minuscule specks in the cream don’t count for anything!

  16. I hate sweet chilli sauce that is more chilli than sweet. The stuff Subway uses is PERFECT, but I can never find any bottled sweet chilli sauce that matches up to Subway’s. Bah.

  17. I feel that way about chocolate chip cookies.. if I take a big bite and don’t get a SINGLE chocolate chip, I get pissed.

    Felisa on October 18 2008 #

  18. Grrr that’s so annoying! The one I hate the most is at a restaurant when you order ‘Fish and chips with salad’ and the salad takes up two thirds of the plate!

  19. You’re making me hungry…and I just went to the dentist.

  20. Can you send this explanation to all manufactures of the above mentioned products so they finally getting the point they are not promising what they say!

Seriously I hate looking for cookies in ice cream, because if I wanted plain ice cream I wouldn’t get the cookies’n’cream one
