An Asian Extravaganza

October 3, 2008 | Filed under Asian-ness

I’m being exceedingly politically incorrect, and having an “Asian Extravaganza” for my 22nd birthday celebrations next month. The night of festivities will include:

  1. An Asian dinner somewhere in Chinatown
  2. An Asian arcade, playing Dance Dance Revolution until our legs fall off
  3. An Asian karaoke bar, with our own private karaoke room
  4. An Asian night of mahjong back at the hotel room I’ll be booking for the night

All in all, an incredibly Asian-tastic time. I briefly contemplated slotting in a visit to An Asian Club (capitals entirely necessary), but to tell you the truth, it scares me a bit to be in a club entirely filled with Asian people when I’m in Melbourne. I’m comfortable with it in China (cause you know, lots of Chinese people), but put me in the same sort of club in Melbourne and it just freaks me out no end.

There’ll also be a dress-up element to the night, with party guests encouraged to dress up in a costume which is vaguely related to Asia in some way. Whether they dress up like a fobby exchange student, as a Harajuku girl/boy, in a qipao, or as an anime character, the best costume on the night (as judged by myself) will receive a $22 gift certificate (the arbitary number is because I’m turning twenty-two).

Who me, politically incorrect and stereotyping? Never!

As always, all Melbournian readers of this blog are invited – just shoot me an email (acchamanda at gmail dot com) and I can let you know more details closer to the date (last week of November). All other readers are invited of course, provided that you can make your way down under.

  1. Hmm…sounds it’s gonna be a blast. So much fun. I wonder if it’s gonna end up in the same way as the lessons if fun you provided us with last year :p :)

  2. It seems like just yesterday you were inviting everyone to your 21st. *sigh* My little Amanda is growing up!

  3. All this time I thought you were older than me…actually I think I am a little slow because I remember you talking about your 21st last year-maybe it just didn’t click. I’ll be 22 on Sunday and I have nothing planned, just staying home with my family.

Your Asian party sounds fun, what costume are you dressing up in? Lol I have never heard of a fobby before, learnt something new!

  4. Excitement! I can finally dress up in my hello kitty stuffs and not feel strange! And mahjong! My set is currently collecting dust! And Karaoke and arcade games will be an interesting experience :P

  5. Like I said… we’ll see if I can jet my way down to Melbourne. Can I come dressed as you? Nothing better than a fag emulating his hag. I’ll have two basketballs stuffed under my shirt, a pair of thick-rimmed glasses and “FOBULOUS” stamped across my forehead. Marvellous.

  6. OH SHIT DDR. I LOVE THAT GAME SO MUCH.

Goddamn it Amanda, it’ll be so cool to FINALLY go to Melbourne… but it’ll really depend on my Uni schedule, with end of Uni exams and what not. Or whatever else that needs to be going on. But yeah… WHOO DDR! :D

Also. Don’t know how to play mahjong.

  7. P.S. Ah, come to think of it, I echo Belinda’s sentiment above – no idea how to play mahjong. Eeek.

  8. Oooh! If I could make it down there, I’d dress up like Sailor Mars. =D

  9. Aww maaaan, I want to come just for the Mahjong. Damn you for living a $100-500 flight away.

  11. Aw, it sounds like it’ll be so much fun! Except I bet I’d fail at everything — except maybe the dinner. :)

  12. Man that sounds like one awesome party- I would totally love something like that except perhaps not the DDR because I am un-co to the extreme. Too bad I’m in Sydney :(

What’re you gonna dress up as? I suspect you may have something extremely extravagant planned :)

  13. how much do you think a flight would cost?

  14. Oh, that sounds like so much fun! I’m incredibly jealous! Especially the dressing up part! I’d probably go as Soi Fon from Bleach. Her outfit is totally cool. :D

Gah, you don’t know how jealous I am now!! XD

  18. DDR… Karaoke… Mahjong. I think you have them all down :P

You’ll just have to remember to flash the peace sign in every picture!

  19. I prefer Pump It Up! myself over DDR, but everything sounds like a blast! Never mind that I don’t know how to play Mahjong either, but the food part, the arcade, and the karaoke rooms sounds fun!
