September 27 2008: Blog Demographics

Don’t want to toot my own trumpet and declare myself to be psychic or anything (that sounds like a bad euphemism for masturbating…), but your answers to my demographic-mapping questions yesterday were pretty much what I’d imagined. I’m fairly anal about statistics and the like, so I’m always aware of who’s commenting, but it was good to have some confirmation.

So, as an average reader of this blog, you’re most likely:

  1. Female (or gay male)
  2. Twenty-three or younger
  3. From either the Americas (America, Canada, Latin America) or Australia/New Zealand
  4. Found this blog through someone’s blogroll around a year ago
  5. Reading through a feedreader and only coming onto the site when you want to comment

Europe and Asia was surprisingly under-represented in yesterday’s answers, though I know for a fact that a sizeable portion of my regular commenters are from those two continents. Perhaps they were having a commenting off day? I was also surprised to be reminded how many of you have known me for almost three to four years now! A number of you have been with me since my n00by days using Frontpage, then blogging on LiveJournal, while others have been with me since 2005 when I was running Umb-Rella Reviews and perfecting Obsidian Rhapsody. You deserve an award for putting up with me for this long.

It was a relief to know as well, that everything I blog about has some measure of approval from different people. While some enjoy the politics/culture/society entries, others prefer my fashion/shopping/money entries, yet others enjoy anything with sex and humour. Some don’t care what the heck I write about, as long as I write about it with the Amanda touch.

Essentially, I think this means I keep blogging the way I’m currently blogging. I’m not doing anything wrong, though apparently, Lil thinks I need more boobage photos, which can be arranged (NB: Not my boobs).

See? Humour, this blog has it.

  1. I’m an average reader in all ways, apart from the last- I just go to your site though I should add it to my feed. And .. that photo is really, really disturbing.

  2. Well, I kinda fit. Im female, under 23, and from the Americas. But, Ive been with you since OR and I use no feedreader, I visit your actual site!

My Michael only fits one of those lol. Straight (or better be straight) Male, almost 24, United States, only a month or so *sniff*, no feedreader.

Are you sure thats not you? The nipple ring SCREAMS Amanda. *nods*

  3. That picture is disturbing XD

And hey, I fit most of that demographics hahaha. Except for #3 (where I’m from Asia but am a US citizen? So what the hell does that make me? XD) and #4 (found you about a few months ago where I read an entry about Belinda thanking you for a package you sent her).

  4. I *was* going to comment yesterday after I’d read the post but I was so tired it wouldn’t have made much sense. I’ll try now, since I’m slightly more alert…

I’m female, 22 years old, live in England, have no idea how I found your blog but I’ve been “reading you” since OR and I usually access your entries via my feed reader (Google Reader).
I’m not on my laptop most days but I can access Google Reader from work and I get there about twenty minutes early, so I’m allowed to do what I like online (unless it’s porn or gambling).

Some don’t care what the heck I write about, as long as I write about it with the Amanda touch.

I’m one of those people. :)

  5. Female (or gay male): Correct :P
    Twenty-three or younger: I’m 17, also correct!
From either the Americas (America, Canada, Latin America) or Australia/New Zealand: No :(
Found this blog through someone’s blogroll around a year ago: Nope, I used to visit O-R, although I wasn’t a regular reader :)
Reading through a feedreader and only coming onto the site when you want to comment: Wrong again! I haven’t used a feedreader since I deleted my Google account nine, almost ten months ago.

And although I hardly ever comment here these days, rest assured I do read daily and still enjoy it!

  6. Yes! That’s why I come here! The Amanda touch! :D

I love statistics too, personally. I really should ask my readers the same question. I bet mine is very similar to yours, except maybe a slightly older audience.

  7. Wow, I’m a total “the average reader”. I’ve been following your blog since the Obsidian-Rhapsody days … my daily dose of sanity Amanda.

  8. Okay that image makes me want to hug my skinny self and call it a day.

Re-reading through that entry made me remember that I’ve known you since Obsidian Rhapsody…and you still had Umb-Rella going on too. Question, though… when the hell was that?!

  9. despite not answering the questions (or even being aware) I’m happy to say I fit into all of those. I could be a poster boy.

My dream project is something like an rss reader that takes snapshots of the sites. I don’t want web design to become obsolete. Especially since there are sites like yours that are so visually pleasing.

  10. I was having a shitty day? Ah well… I still entered my answer XP

By the way, thanks for the invite. I LOVE browsing through that site. XD

  11. I’m very glad to know that those aren’t your boobs.

  12. Haha, i kiinda fit… lol, i remember Umb-rella and OR XD

    Amanda on September 28 2008 #

  13. Let’s see now…

    1. I’m female
    2. Aged 21
    3. From New Zealand
    4. Found this blog through a blogroll, although I forget whose.
    5. Have it on my Google Reader.

So that’s a 5/5, Amanda! Great work there!

    Catherine on September 28 2008 #

  14. Huh. Didn’t get to comment yesterday but I do fit into almost everything you said and I enjoy your blog for its variety… from the funny posts to the serious, thought-provoking one. You’re a good writer and you tend to keep everyone interested in whatever you have to say. Keep it up!

    Felisa on September 28 2008 #

  15. 1. Female
    2. 20
    3. Canada
    4. Found this blog through a blogroll, yes, but not quite a year ago.
    5. Have you on my feedreader, of course :). Although, I do tend to visit your site (and all the sites on my feedreader), anyway, since I get tired of looking at Google Reader easily :P.

So, erm, I guess that’s a 4.5/5? Buh. So much for being unique :/.

[And I definitely think that boobage picture scarred me for life. Thanks, Amanda :O].

  16. Let’s see…

    1. *looks down* Yup, I’m female.
    2. 20 is younger than 23.
    3. Canada.
    4. I found your blog over a year ago. I’ve visited Obsidian Rhapsody in the past (I even reviewed it on YourSite.nu, now that I think about it). I also remember you reviewing.
    5. On my computer upstairs I do have your blog in my Firefox LiveBookmarks. I tend to read all entries regardless of the title or whatnot. Using the Live Bookmarks means that I must come to your site to read anything.

And I must second Alle on being scared by the boobage picture. *shivers* Fortunately I can look at mine as comfort.

  17. Ohh…yeah. I do check your blog through Bloglines, but I go to the actual entry page on your blog to read it (I keep the entry part in the reader hidden by default, so I’m not tempted to read without going). So yeah. if you were to change the layout and not say anything, I would notice it. :D
