September 26 2008: You Ask, I Answer #2.5
Filed under Online
Just catching up on two questions asked after I posted the first round of answers. I won’t be answering any more questions asked on that entry from now on, so either email me if it’s urgent, or hold onto it until September 13th next year!
What inspired you to start blogging? (asked by Brandy)
Nothing particularly poetic or inspired I’m afraid, I simply wanted to be “one of the crew”. Back in early 2004, I joined a tennis forum dedicated to love of Spanish tennis player Juan Carlos Ferrero. The top people at the forum all had websites of some description – whether it be personal sites, blogspot blogs, tennis fan sites, etc. In April of 2004, I started experimenting with Frontpage and Freewebs. By the end of the year, I was (admittedly, tediously) hand-coding on a subdomain. Blogging beyond standard site updates of “new layout, lulz” didn’t come until mid-2005, and even then it was primarily along the lines of updating about fanlistings I owned, etc.
It wasn’t until early-2006 that I begun blogging on a more personal note on LiveJournal…which ultimately led to blogging on my former personal site (obsidian-rhapsody.com), and then blogging here at Jingwen which has never been anything but a blog. I actually still maintain my LiveJournal, though it now exists primarily as a place where I crosspost my entries here, as well as for memes and the like.
Nowadays, I’d have to say that it’s myself who motivates me to continue blogging. It’s simply become second habit for me to spill my thoughts on whatever subject is plaguing me on whichever day – as natural as brushing one’s teeth before bed for example. Admittedly, the feedback I receive on my entries is important as well.
Where is/are your most ticklish spot(s)? (asked by Vickie)
I’m ticklish all over! I’m actually really sensitive to touch, so any small touch can startle me and make me jump. It’s a distinct disadvantage, especially when you’re naked in bed and engaged in a tickle fight. Unsurprisingly, I always lose…
And now that I’ve finished answering your questions, I’d like to ask you a couple of questions of my own!
- How old are you?
- Where are you from?
- How did you discover my blog? How long ago did you discover it?
- Do you visit my blog regularly? If so, how so? (e.g. actually visiting, following RSS feed, etc.)
- What kind of entries do you enjoy most?
Help me make Jingwen a better experience for you. This would be an excellent time for any lurkers to de-lurk. I promise I don’t bite!

Heh, I’m happy I’m not ticklish at all. :) Except I sometimes flinch when someone pokes me in the thighs. But you didn’t hear that from me. :P
1. I’m 16 years old, soon to be 17, which sounds like an extremely unremarkable number. I should just skip from 16 to 18.
2. I was born and raised in California and have never moved in my entire life.
3. Gosh, I don’t remember how I discovered your blog. I’m guessing it was through Umb-Rella Reviews 2.5-ish years ago, but I’m not sure.
4. I visit Jingwen whenever you update (since I use Google Reader), and since you update pretty regularly, I guess I visit pretty regularly.
5. I like entries about your random life/school/work stories. Surprisingly, I also like your fashion/shopping entries, although I have little to no experience with clothes and such.

JCF forum! I miss those days.
1. 20…oh wait I’m still 19. I honestly keep forgetting that for some reason.
2. Orange County, CA. Though I love that I’m only 45 min away from Disneyland and there are lots of other nice things around here, I’m kinda indifferent to the place. What keeps me here are family, friends, and familiarity – it’s nice to know where to drive.
3. You told me to get an LJ and your blog was linked to my friend’s page.
4. I check LJ everyday, so I end up checking your blog everyday!
5. I like all your entries. It’s the range that makes your blog interesting. But I’d have to say I most enjoy those entries that make me smile, because I always need a little laughter here and there.
marilyn on September 26 2008 #
1. How old are you?
24.
2. Where are you from?
New York, but moving to New Zealand next year.
3. How did you discover my blog? How long ago did you discover it?
I went on a mad RSS craving last week and added lots of interesting blogs to my feed reader. To be honest, I probably found your link through someone’s blog or maybe you commented on mine. But I found your blog interesting so I subscribed!
4. Do you visit my blog regularly? If so, how so? (e.g. actually visiting, following RSS feed, etc.)
Yes! Well, for the week or so I’ve had you on my feed. I visit every time you update.
5. What kind of entries do you enjoy most?
I love entries about people’s lives, as well as opinion entries or things people are interested in. Basically, as long as it’s written well and it isn’t drawn out and boring I love it!
Caitlin on September 26 2008 #
Well, I don’t think we ~all~ had side web projects. I was still trying to figure out how icons/avatars worked.
20.
California.
We are friends on LJ, so I got linked to it one day.
I read my friend’s list every day, so if you’ve made an entry, I read it. I do not always comment, though.
I like your quick reviews, and personal tales. Although your thriftiness is amazing, I usually skim it because I’m too lazy and don’t live in an area that is similar to Melbourne.
Jennifer on September 26 2008 #
1. 20 about to be 21 on October 10th *hint hint cough cough*
2. Southern California :)
3. Well I’ve pretty much been following you since we met on JCF online…. so forever lol
4. Everyday :) I like to read your opinions and you’re funny :P
5. I find most of your entries interesting so pretty much anything.

Oh wow, I never realised you previously owned obsidian-rhapsody!
1. 19
2. Melbooourne
3. I cannot actually remember. It was a while ago…
4. Yes! I stalk it with my google reader <3
5. Everything. The serious ones because the web seems to lack seriousness and the funny ones because they make me smile! I like them all.

1. 15.
2. The US of A.
3. I was blog surfing and somehow I’ve ended up here. I think I first visited it when it was on Obsidian Rhapsody, but it wasn’t until Jingwen that I’ve started subscribing and reading it often.
4. I visit whenever there’s a new entry, which is every day. *is thankful for feed readers*
5. Anything about your personal life. No one can blog about life stories without making them boring, except for you.
Merinn on September 26 2008 #
1. I’ll be 22 in 9 days
2. Perth
3. I can’t remember when I first discovered it but I remember you having some blue sea type theme up, or you had just put it up I don’t low why I remember that. But I’ve been reading ever since. Actually I think I remember being on some teeny-boppers site and she was saying something like “wing-jen [sic] who is that” and there was some type of e-drama at the time.
4. Every day I find time to read it, or I catch up in my feedreader on the chance I don’t use the internet in one day.
5. You have such a broad range, I love your fashion tips and advice, I loved your sex indulgent stories haha and I like hearing your opinion on things. Truth be told I don’t even like politics but I still read your posts on the matter.

2. I’m Taiwanese, I moved to SanFran when I was 4 months old, then Vancouver when I was 4 years old, then back to the states when I was.. 13?
3. Snark, I think. And I’m actually not sure when I first found it. A while ago.
4. I’m subscribed but sometimes I get behind haha.
5. The funny ones, which is pretty often with you.

2. Born and bred in Melbourne!
3. I can’t quite remember how long ago I discovered your blog, but I know I found somehow through http://petshopgirlsreviews.com/. Rhiannon said something about being inspired by your site, so I was obviously intrigued… I became more excited when I found that you lived in the same city I did!
4. I follow through a RSS reader and only go to your actual blog when I want to leave a comment.
5. I know this might not be a popular choice, but I always love your posts on Australian politics, the public transport system etc. because I can relate to them very easily and I think you have some great ideas. If you were ever in the running to be prime minister, I would vote for you! Also, your funny posts are great.
Melinda on September 26 2008 #
Ha, I’m extremely ticklish too. Insanely ticklish. XD
1. 24
2. Southern California, USA
3. I don’t know when it was (about two years ago?), but you still had Obsidian-Rhapsody then with the blue gradient theme. But uhhh…I just remember you mentioned at the TFL boards that your article on honor killings was published on another site. After I read the article, I came to your site, wondering if you had the article on there as well. ^_^;
4. I check yours and a bunch of other blogs using a feed reader (Bloglines). And I try to check that daily. :)
5. Umm…I’d have to say I really like the entries about your personal life. I pretty much like all of your entries actually. :D

3) I discovered your blog about a year ago, most likely through Jem’s site
4) I subscribe via RSS, so I read your site daily.
5) Sex, men, fashion, etc. :P

1. Currently 15, but I’ll be 16 in a month.
2. I’m pretty sure you know approximately where I live. :P For the sake of answering the question, Melbourne.
3. Ummm, I found your site back in obsidian-rhapsody days, but I forget whether I commented or just lurked at that time. I think I found your site through a review of some kind, but it was so long ago that I don’t really remember. XD
4. I follow your site through Google Reader. I also tend to click on links to entries even when I could just read the whole thing in Google Reader, so I’d say I visit fairly regularly.
5. I agree with Melinda, and will say that I also love your entries on Australian politics and society and so on and so forth. I also like the short entries about your life, and the ones about shopping are pretty useful too. Really, most of your entries are very readable and interesting!
Jessica on September 26 2008 #
Hello! I’m following your advice and de-lurking. I don’t have a blog of my own unless you count a LiveJournal, but I visit a few blogs that interest me for whatever reason daily and yours has become one of them. :)
1. 20
2. Knoxville, TN, USA
3. Honestly, I don’t remember how I discovered it. It was probably linked somewhere else I’ve visited. As for how long ago…maybe a year?
4. I don’t have a feed, but I visit pretty regularly.
5. All of your entries are fun to read because you’re a good writer, and I like reading good writing. :) I suppose the entries on politics, society, world issues, etc. are the most interesting to me, however. I especially like your writings about China because I’m interested in Chinese culture. Your shopping entries are fun and helpful as well.

1. 15…and 6 months.
2. Sydneyy :D
3. Maybe a year ago…a link on somebody else’s blog. Possibly Jem’s?
4. Every time there’s an update, I guess…using Firefox’s built-in RSS-thingy.
5. Hard to say, I enjoy reading most entries…I guess I like the life revelations and culture entries, but being an Asian I like the money entries too (specifically, being frugral) :P

3. You submitted O-R for a review in mid 2005 and we’ve been chatting ever since :)

5. Shopping related entries!

1. How old are you?
23
2. Where are you from?
The beautiful and entirely not Bavarian town of Düsseldorf, Germany (it looks nothing like it does in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).
3. How did you discover my blog? How long ago did you discover it?
No idea, actually. I think I already discovered it a few years ago through some other blogs.
4. Do you visit my blog regularly? If so, how so?
I got you in my feed reader, and whenever there’s something I think it interesting or something I have to say something about, I comment. Or something.
5. What kind of entries do you enjoy most?
Usually the ones I can relate too ;) Somehow that’s mostly things about movies or TV shows, but that doesn’t mean your other entries aren’t interesting for me either ;)
adastra on September 26 2008 #

2. California but in Holland now.
3. From my sis mimi, I’m not too sure how long ago though.
4.Yup I have it on rss.
5. I like reading most of your entries but I especially like the fashion, shopping,
and culture :)

Ticklish people are fun =D there is absolutely nothing rewarding about poking someone or attempting to start a bit of a tickle fight, if they have have no reaction and are stiff as a robot. Pfffft.
I’m 17 and Taiwanese. I discovered your blog ages ago, but felt intimidated (sif you can intrude and comment on a popular pro-as blogger’s site!) so I forgot it till recently again. I use RSS feeds to know that you’ve updated, but I click the link to read the entry on the actual site aaaand… I enjoy the philosophical topics, your perspectives and concepts, YOUR personal life… and definitely the thrifty tips ;)
What entries do YOU enjoy writing, eh? Are there any topics you particularly love blogging about, and look forward to writing it? Does blogging about personal things, every day life, feelings etc give you more satisfaction or article type of entries?
Jess on September 26 2008 #
1. How old are you? Just recently turned 20….. =_=
2. Where are you from? NZ~ ^^
3. How did you discover my blog? How long ago did you discover it? Probably through Snark sometime in the past 9 months..
4. Do you visit my blog regularly? If so, how so? (e.g. actually visiting, following RSS feed, etc.) Yup. Regularly.. Follow using RSS ~ Google Reader and come visit on the site when I want to comment :)
5. What kind of entries do you enjoy most?
Almost all of them. They are all amusing in one way or another. You can probably make anything funny. But also are able to be serious when you need to be =]

5. No real preference really! *totally unhelpful*

1. Old enough to say I’m legal in this fine, fine country of ours. Have been so for the past…four months, no fraction of which has been spent in a pub with you and a line-up of alcohol. Tsk tsk.
2. Good old Sydney.
3. I…wait. Wait, I actually can’t remember. No joke. I can’t remember. :S Although it was in late 2006? To early 2007? Sounds about right. And, like Belinda, I “feel that I’ve been following your blog for aaaagesss…”
4. Daily, to check if there’s another entry I can spew verbal diarrhoea (how appetising) all over in the form of a comment.
5. Your entries on money and travel interest me greatly. 1) Because, as a fellow yellow, I need to start learning how to be uber-thrifty, and who better to learn from than the woman who suggested I shop in the girls’ clothing sections at Myer because I need “emo skinny jeans”; and 2) It’s nice to see how enriching experiences can be. Oh, and then there are those utterly random entries like how you ended up Mangling (Manga-ing?) your face; they’re good for a nasal chuckle. So, in essence… everything. Don’t change, damnit!

3. I discovered it by following a link from Jem’s site, about a year ago.
4. I started out actually visiting, until I discovered the wonders of google reader and now I mostly read the feed. And given that I check my reader daily, then I guess that counts as checking it daily, because I always read all new items the same day they are posted.
5. I enjoy the money saving tips, the funny family/brother anecdotes, and of course the sex tips.

1. How old are you?
I turned 17 on Wednesday :)
2. Where are you from?
The Northern part of The Netherlands, from a small very Christian town near Groningen. It’s fun to live here, but the neighbours are odd and very very very Christian, and they look down on us.
3. How did you discover my blog? How long ago did you discover it?
I think I discovered it back when I joined Snark… I can’t really remember though, it was a while ago anyway.
4. Do you visit my blog regularly? If so, how so? (e.g. actually visiting, following RSS feed, etc.)
I stalk your feed, but I do actually visit the website. :) I lurk mostly though :P
5. What kind of entries do you enjoy most?
I enjoy them all :D

The motivation for you to start a blog had to begin with an obsession for a hot guy :p Really I don’t think there would have been any other way. And Mike is just as ticklish as you are. The ears, behind the knees, his freaking elbow…

2. The coast of the usa, originally. I now live in the heartland of the usa. Maybe one day I’ll live on the other coast too.
3. Through Jordie, actually, back when she had her website. I knew her through posting together at SNOG! (and where the hell is she at now?). Your entries always amused me so I added your link so that it was easier to stalk.
4. I visit everyday I have access to the web and freetime. I link hop from my Surf page, though, as I’ve never done a reader program before and post from work.
5. I enjoy most all of your entries, although some of my favorites are when you talk about politics of your country (or any country other than the USA) because I never hear about other countries. The popular news sites I read focus on our country and our country only. So I think it’s nice to hear about how other countries run and how satisfied their constituents are. Also, I like the fashion ones because I have NOT kept up with the fashion world and its nice to see what other hip young things are wearing other than Tshirts and jeans! Hehe.
ANYWAY, I enjoy your site mostly because I feel it’s a good reflection of you. There is no real defining point for it and I can’t really explain it. But I feel like we’re good friends and I already know you so well, just from reading and visiting. You write like you’re talking to your girlfriends and I really love that.

I’m Rachael, I’m 21, I’m from England, I found your blog through some random WPR thing (I think), I visit your blog almost daily, either directly on your site or on my flist on eljay, I enjoy your entries that aren’t about sex with boys, and I love run-on sentences.

1. How old are you? Twenty-five (today, actually, yesterday I was twenty-four).
2. Where are you from? United States.
3. How did you discover my blog? How long ago did you discover it? Through Snark. It’s probably been over a year.
4. Do you visit my blog regularly? If so, how so? (e.g. actually visiting, following RSS feed, etc.) I usually visit whenever I see a new update in the Snark thread or just randomly deciding to browse. I don’t really comment.
5. What kind of entries do you enjoy most? The reviews in ten words. Most people won’t admit they have read what amounts to published Pride & Prejudice fanfiction. I’m the only person in my corner of the web who doesn’t react with horror or indifference when it’s mentioned. I also like hearing about your life (haha, sounds stalker-like), your little brother, the anecdotes. The politics entries are interesting, too. The only ones I really will not bother reading are the ones about shopping. :P

I know I should’ve answered earlier, but I was having a commenting day off…for months already. Shari = lazy. And hey, it rhymes!
I’ve just turned 21-year-old gal living in the Philippines. I forgot how I discovered your blog — probably through Jem’s site — years ago. Well, during your Obsidian Rhapsody days anyway, but I was mostly a stalker. Err, I mean, lurker.
Yours is actually one of my most visited blogs, though lately I only drop by whenever I feel like it. I am subscribed to your feed in both my dashboard and a reader, though usually I just type in your web address in my browser.
I enjoy all your entries, but maybe I’m not so much in the shopping part ’cause I’m so poor that I can’t afford anything even if you have tips ’cause Philippines is such a hard-arsed country run by fools elected by the common people and I just drool over your purchases hahahaha! Kidding!
Not the crack about the Philippines though; it’s the truth. ;)
