September 6 2008: The Answer (And A Stupid-Lying-Skank-Ho)
Yesterday’s game of “Guess how shopping!1337 Amanda is” brought in primarily female (or gay male) contestants. I don’t know what this says about either the demographics of my readershop, or the shopping/bargaining habits of aforementioned contestants, but the figures stack up as follows:
- Black dressing gown - $15AUD from $49.95AUD
- Jewellery set - $9.90AUD from $29.95AUD
- Clutch/purse - $10AUD from $29.95AUD
- Spotted blouse - $10AUD from $59.95AUD
- Fleecy jacket - $20AUD from $99.95AUD
- Gold top - $5AUD from $39.95AUD
- Black/grey dress - $5AUD from $49.95AUD
- Black blouse - $10AUD from $59.95AUD
- Gold dress + two jumpsuits - $10AUD from $179.85AUD
- Brother’s zipup hoodie - $10AUD from $30AUD
So, I spent $105AUD, when the combined retail value was supposed to be $629.45AUD (a rough guestimate based on internet research as some items didn’t have an “original” price marked). Essentially, I paid 16% of the original price. The final percentage was skewed somewhat by the “three for $10AUD” purchase (it would have been 21% otherwise), but obviously, I think I’m still proven to be shopping!1337.
Plugs to Nellie for coming closest to the actual figure with a guess of $600AUD…and no love to Xuan who joke-guessed $601.50AUD, then reverted to a more conventional guess of $450AUD-$500AUD.
And in other news, it’s really hard trying to hold a debate about the American presidential race in Chinese with my father when you don’t know the words for abstinence, hypocritical, fundamentalist, Alaska and stupid-lying-skank-ho. You tend to revert to long-winded explanations of the terms, loosely translating to “not doing it”, “doing what they tell people not to do”, “unrealistic people who think it’s okay to dictate every little thing society does”, “state of ice, snow, and polar bears”, and “stupid-lying-skank-ho”.
…surprising, stupid-lying-skank-ho is the same in every language.

Wow. And I was likely to be the least shopping-savvy commenter on your last post. Way to go, me!
At least the Chinese like to keep their words short and to the point, so your long-winded explanations wouldn’t have been as long winded as they are in English. Sense, I make very little of it.

(I admit I don’t know the exact Chinese words for abstinence and fundamentalist — in brackets.)

Damnit! Ah well, if you ever spree-shop (shop-spree?) again and post something like it again, I’ll go that little bit further and guess some highly unrealistic amount.

I went shopping with my sister today. Didn’t spend much and not nearly as much as you (with your discount!) but hey I had my spree last week when I bought a new car ;)

Ack, I wish I could be as shopping-savvy as you are, but I tend to follow a ‘if you want it, get it’ type policy.
Anyway, Sarah Palin? Not a fan, either.

LOL DAMN. How the heck do you manage to find items marked from down $100 to $20… and FROM $180 TO $10 THAT IS 1337Z0RS.
I have the same issue with my parents, a discussion that can be well thought out and concise in English becomes a long-winded muddled conversation that consists more of explaining the word your trying to say, than your point itself. It’s especially hard because my dad loves to talk and hardly listens so I can never get my point across amidst all the explaining. What we need is a personal translator monkey. That’s the answer to all our problems!

wow shopping *^-^* It sounds like you know how to shop LOL compare to me I can never find sales or what-not so I always end up paying full price. grr. You must write a post on how to find good deals lol (or have you done that already?) O.O
ooh.. my Chinese is very limited..in fact, i talk like a baby when i speak in chiense because english is my primary language. So if i ever wanna get my points across with my parents… it takes me forever to explain..and by that time i give up. *sigh*
