I’m On “So You Think You Can Dance”

Surely I can’t be the only person who becomes part of whatever situation they’re a spectator to?

I watch the Olympics, and I become a swimmer, a diver, a gymnast, an athlete. I watch football, and I become the first female professional footballer in the Australian Football League. I go to a concert, and I become an awesome musician. I watch/read Lord of the Rings, and I became an elf. I watch/read Harry Potter, and I became a witch.

I watched So You Think You Can Dance? on Wednesday night. Australia’s only just getting into the final eight contestants of the last American season, despite the fact that the season already finished in America weeks ago. Yes, I know Joshua won (Wikipedia, thank you), but I like to watch it for the routines anyway.

Anyway. I become an awesome dancer in all styles whenever I watch the show. I dance jazz, I tango, I crump, I disco, and I even dance Bollywood as good as Katee and Joshua did. My lines are perfect, my footwork is impressive, and I am the best dancer in the world.

Then the show ends and, well, I’m not. Not anymore. I’m back to the dancer I really am – a really average dancer at best, a “well, the best thing I can say is that at least she doesn’t trip over her own feet” dancer at worst. Fantasies are good while they last though.

  1. Ah! I love Joshua and Katee SO MUCH!!! There’s this one episode where they talk about each others secret (“What America may not know about ____”). I thought that was the cutest thing. :) *fangirl*

  2. Heh, and here I thought you’re really going on it and was punching myself for not having a TV at home. “Hey you know that woman? She’s on my blogroll!”

One of my classmates made it in the final 30 for Ladette to Lady, though!

  5. You are definitely not the only one. It’s quite fun to become part of the situation you are a spectator to. I truly enjoy it, especially after watching Heroes.

Oh my, I was so disappointed after I snapped back to reality.

  6. OMG Me too!!! Hahaha!! Especially when music and sports are concerned. When I’m not a hardcore guitar shredder on tour with Metallica, I’m the unhittable and untouchable first female pitcher in the MLB — never mind that I can barely strum my acoustic guitar, and that I can’t throw a ball farther than 5 feet. But I’m awesome regardless, I know =P

  7. I’m kind of the same, actually. I imagine myself being a part of that particular place, that world that I’m reading about or watching. I get so immersed in a particular book or movie that I feel as if I’m part of the action. Then it all ends too quickly and I realize that I am not, in fact, the greatest street racer of all time. =/

  8. I do the exact same thing. When I was watching the gymnastics portion of the Olympics, I imagined myself being the one doing all those difficult vaults and jumps. In reality, I’m too afraid to even attempt a somersault. XD

  9. I can’t stand the local version of that show – it’s so mediocre :/

  10. I totes do that with HP and LoTR but I don’t watch SYTYCD, so no awe-inspiring dance moves for me.. which is really a good thing, I think.
