Put (It) In

June 11, 2008 | Filed under Politics, Relationships/Men

Surely I can’t be the only person who, when reading the newspaper or other means of delivering news, subtly checks out the photo of every person in it? Criminals are inevitably ugly, sportsmen are inevitably handsome, and I will inevitably find a spot of cellulite or some other flaw on a supermodel. Trust me. These generalisations are non-negotiable.

I pay particular attention to politicians of course, not only because I have an interest in politics, but because the potential combination of a brain (or, at least the ability to convince others that you have a brain and are a good candidate to run the country) and physical attractiveness is an interesting prospect. And by interesting, I do of course mean “they can be my baby’s daddy”.

So, the politicans that I swoon over:

  1. Vladimir Putin. Oh baby.

…actually, yeah, that’s about it. While other world leaders do exude an aura of “mmm, power is such an aphrodisiac”, they’re not particularly attractive. Putin on the other hand, is what I like to call a real man…someone who could kill a bear with his bare hands, and then bring the carcass home for his woman to cook. Yes, the very idea of a manly male provider and a woman in the kitchen is against militant feminist principles, yadda yadda. What can I say, it turns me on to imagine Putin as the provider, and myself as his bitchslave in the kitchen and bedroom.

  3. We all know who Amber will ‘nominate’ if she sees this :p

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a politician I find attractive. That said, Barack Obama is quite handsome from a “I’d pinch his cheeks” Grandma kind of way.

  4. My sister is absolutely obsessed with Putin. I personally don’t get it, but my taste in men has always been more or less questionable. I think I might be missing some sort of a gene, because manly, muscular men are a big turn off for me (apart from Daniel Graig…), I don’t find sportsmen handsome at all and, what many people find odd, I think Brad Pitt is quite possibly the ugliest man in the world.

  5. Well Putin was Time magazine’s Person of the Year so I don’t think your opinions are unjustified ;)

  6. Most, if not all, politicians aren’t my type and more often than not, I find it amusing to trash talk about them (or their misdoings, at least).

@Jem: Isn’t David Milliband just a phase at Amber’s life?

  7. OH PUTIN.

  8. Putin is fucking scary. D:

  9. It scares me the way I was mentioned in your comments. D: As I’ve disowned David Miliband, I have to say that I’d totally jump Barack Obama.

  10. Well then, if you only care about looks, you might want to check Norway’s prime minister. Jens Stoltenberg, I think he’s the most handsome prime minister/president of all times, and I didn’t even vote for him…

  11. But seriously, Putin? Seriously???

    Regine on June 12, 2008 #

  12. :) That’s one way to look politicians.

    Pema on June 12, 2008 #

  13. I hope you didn’t pick that photo because you thought it was flattering.

I was waiting for some seductive, strong man face and was greeted with moobs.

But I do like manly men. mmm.

Reply: I like to think of them as “undeveloped pectorals”, rather than moobs. :P

  14. Oh. My. GOSH.

    Tracy on June 12, 2008 #

  15. I can understand the politicians-are-hot thing, but Putin? hmm, not my taste, but to each his (her) own. I can’t particularly pick out any seductive politicians, but the idea of one is nice.

    marilyn on June 12, 2008 #

  16. Yes yes YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! I totally agree, much to my parents’ amusement.

He’s handsome, not boyish and he’s an ex secret agent (KGB) now tell me what else a girl could possibly want.

    *swoooooooooons*

    Vera on June 12, 2008 #

  17. Hahahahahahaha… I am very amused :P

…Awww darn, I can’t think of any attractive Canadian politicians.

    Eina on June 12, 2008 #

  18. that guy? … really? D: i was expecting better! haha… scary!

    Rebecca on June 12, 2008 #

  19. Yeeeeeeah, not so sure about Putin… But Norway’s Prime Minister is pretty handsome! (It seems that Norway has produced quite a lot of men I find attractive, actually. :P)

Reply: Man, you’re the second person to say that! :P We don’t get much news on Norway here in Australia unfortunately, so I’ve never seen a photo of him…*googles*

  20. Lacks chest hair. Am I the only girl who likes chest hair?

    Reply: I can’t say I like hirsute men. :P

    Julie on June 12, 2008 #

  21. Ew, Putin definitely needs to keep his shirt on.

    Emily on June 12, 2008 #

  22. ^ Yes, he shouldn’t flaunt his boobs. :(
I don’t see what’s attractive about him – he doesn’t strike me as manly as all. But politicians can be hot.

    Chantelle on June 12, 2008 #

  23. LMAO!!

That’s why we are friends mandy lol Tennis player ogling and Putin love.

    Noemi on June 12, 2008 #

  24. Oh I check everyone out. Sometimes blatantly. Which doesn’t matter so much when you’re looking at a newspaper, but is more awkward when it’s a guy walking down the hall, haha.

I think Obama is cute! :D

    Shen on June 12, 2008 #

  25. EEEWWWW.

I have to agree with some of the other commenters. I’d go for Barack. :)

    Skye on June 12, 2008 #

  26. Putin’s politics scare me too much for me to even try considering him attractive.

I think I have yet to see a really attractive politician. Except maybe for some youth politicians.

Oh, and I’m surprised that people find the Norwegian Prime Minister handsome! He’s just so…old.

    Mari on June 12, 2008 #

  27. I’m scared. I’ll just keep to the non-politicians. Or…non everything, actually…

    Xuan on June 13, 2008 #

  28. ^Mari: Who would you prefer then? I’d much do Stoltenberg despite his hair getting gray than Putin. This Norwegian at least looks good. Who cares about age? He’s not old at all!

Putin scares me though, he looks like an alien and reminds me of one of those x-files spooky conspirators…
