A Bit Of A Gay Baby
June 9, 2008 | Filed under Life
There’s something about many Australians that borders upon obsession, and that’s the engagement of half the population in the quest of DIY home improvements. This obsession is supported by the multitude of home improvement shows on prime time television (yes, you too can renovate and redecorate your entire house for only $500!), as well as the huge DIY warehouses you will find in every suburb.
I have the pleasure of living virtually ten minutes walk away from one of these DIY warehouses. This means that every public holiday, my mother will force the entire family to go with her to this warehouse, to scope out what new things she can do to add to the house’s appeal. This is her own private brand of torture – she loves looking at wall sconces, but I’d rather rip my eyeballs out of their sockets with my bare hands.
There really was only one good thing about shopping for DIY equipment on the Queen’s Birthday public holiday today, and that was this discovery in the garden section:

Nothing brightens up my day more than a gay baby. (Yes, I am immature, and I don’t care who knows it.)

LOL.
FWIW, the UK were avid DIYers in the 90s/early 00s – I’m guessing the crumbling of our economy is putting a stop to it though :P

Haha, my grandma took me to one of those warehouses yesterday! There are absolutely none anywhere remotely close to where I live, though, so I don’t get to experience those things very often. I’m guessing there’s not much point in the suburbs close-ish to the city where almost every block is a block of flats…

I love DIY shows. I can just turn on HGTV, and curl up and watch people destroy stuff and then make it better ALL DAY! :P

Oh but I love home decor shopping.
Also, I need go with my parents – I don’t trust their taste!

Your mom and I would so get along. I love wandering around Lowes and other Home Improvement stores. Give me a tall lemonade and several free hours and I’m good to go.
You ought to try to grow some Gay Babies, Amanda! I think you’d do an admirable job.

LOL! Don’t worry, I’d be making jokes out of gay babies all the time too!
II’m a big lazy bum, so DIY stuff doesn’t catch my attention too much. I’d rather pay someone to do it for me. It’s how I got through AP Chem in high school haha.

That’s too funny. A few weeks back I saw briefly on the news a lady speaking and her named was Gay Head. That was enough to crack me up!
Reply: I totally would have too!

@ Gay baby: LOL! What a name for a flower of all things.
I don’t think we have any of these DIY warehouses here (unless you mean places like Home Depot), but they sound interesting! My dad would love them for sure. My mom would probably buy out the whole warehouse if it were possible. I would lock myself in my room and only come out when the dust settled. :P

I actually love DIY warehouses (like Home Depot, etc.) because I wanted to be an interior designer when I was young. :P
Gay baby? I guess they ran out of more err… flower-y sounding names?
