May 9 2008: Perhaps They’re Monty Python Fans?

In vague response to Tracey’s WTFlannel entry (except not really, the only thing it has in common is the fact that it mentions flannel), an experience yesterday at the mall:

  1. Setting: The Reject Shop (or, the dime store, two dollar store, store with cheap Asian imports, etc.)
  2. Characters: Yours truly, three teenage geeks
  3. Circumstances: Yours truly searching for a cheap white squeaky dog toy bone (to complete my Bam-Bam outfit – photos tomorrow!)

The geeks were rifling through the cheap clothing racks. Cue lots of squeaky semi-broken voices giggling as one exclaims “Check it dudes! Lumberjack flannel!”, as he pulls on a shirt that looks vaguely like this.

“Oh man, that’s wicked sweet!”, the other two exclaim as they too grab a flannel shirt to put on.

They pay for the shirts, and walk out of the store, still with them on. They’re not being ironic, they’re not going to a costume party as lumberjacks; flannel is actually their preferred fashion style.

I’m a little flabbergasted. Oh, and shallow too. Also, don’t forget the “OH MAH GAWD BECKY, LOOK AT HER BUTT”.

  2. I had a red flannel shirt on once. It wasn’t the kind of shirt that I would wear out on the street. I was wearing it to sleep in… Anyway, I was at uni. in the bathroom preparing for bed and this guy comes in. I was thinking about how dismal my fashion was at that moment, when the guy said (and he was perfectly serious), “I LIKE your shirt.”

Flannel really appeals to some, I guess.

  4. Sam has a flannel print jacket which he calls his hick jacket and he refuses to where it anywhere but in the house.

    Understandably.

Why on earth would anyone under the age of 30 willingly wear FLANNEL? Ugh.
