May 6 2008: The Common People’s Tribute To The Spice Girls
I just had the most remarkable idea, because you know, I’m an ideas woman!
I’ve been in a bit of a Spice Girls slump these past couple of months, ever since they turned their supposed “world tour” into a “North America & Europe tour”, and totally dissed the millions of fans they have in Australia and Asia. I have been, to say the least, not very happy with them. I would have been prepared to fly to Asia to see them in concert if they hadn’t been able to make it to Australia, but even that wasn’t an option!
Despite this disappointment however, it’s very hard for me to remain mad at the Girls, when they made so much of my pre-teen life memorable. Their music defined moments of my life, and it has continued to play a part in my adult life. The messages sent in their songs, the sheer youthfulness and exuberance exhibited in their debut album, doesn’t become less influential with time - rather it retains a certain timelessness.
Surely I’m not the only one who has been so adversely affected by their music? Whether it be a positive or negative influence, extreme love or extreme hatred, the Spice Girls was a defining point of the 1990s, and as such, should have been extremely important in the lives of bloggers who grew up in that era, or bloggers who have come to appreciate their music and work after their peak.
So, Why Don’t We Come Together? Show your love for the Spice Girls by dedicating a blog entry to them. Whether it be musings on how they’ve touched your life, a funny anecdote on how “Wannabe” provided the backdrop for an embarrassing romantic encounter, your views on how they defined “Girl Power” for the nineties, a photo of your large collection of Spice memorabilia, or whatever form it may take, stop hiding your love (whether current or former) for the Girls, and proudly proclaim it to the world!
If you decide to participate in this (and I have no idea how successful this will be, if at all, considering that I can’t think of anyone else who’s still as pro-Spice as I am), send a trackback to this entry or comment with a link, and you’ll be plugged in a “List of Participants” that I’ll add to over time. My own dedication to the Girls will come tomorrow!

I totally wanna participate! Does my blog about the music of the ’90s count? If not, then, I have to create a new blog pronto.
Reply: An entry entirely dedicated to the Girls is more what I was thinking of!

The Spice Girls rock but seeing as how I already have a blog entry about their concert they aren’t getting another one. :P My school had this thing where every year a band would come and perform, and the Spice Girls came and sang about a year before they got famous. Geri used to go to my school. :p
Reply: OOOH MAREN, BLOG ABOUT THAT!
