I am at a loss. I am literally almost crying. I’ve lost my USB stick.
I’m not even all that concerned about the lost half-finished assignments and all my research notes – these I can get back with a few sleepless nights and a bit of hard work. It’s a bitch and a pain in the arse, but I can get it (or an approximation of it) back.
It’s the things I can never get back that hurt me most. Photos with friends, of trips overseas…these are alright as I have a copy of them on my Facebook profile, but what of the photos I don’t upload? Of family celebrations? Of my baby second cousins in Hong Kong? Lost, forever.
I’m feeling really fucking crap right about now.

My hard drive died last year, with it about 10GB of irreplaceable photos, of my vacation in Stockholm among others. That really really really sucked big time. I’ve learned from that and always have my photos on two hard drives these days.

Eep. Everybody I know who has a USB has lost them at least one point in their lives — one of my teachers has stuck “WANTED!” posters around our school with a reward if any of us manage to locate hers.
Sorry to hear about that though. Is there any chance of finding it, or do you really have no idea? =/

All I can suggest is going back everywhere you’ve been and try to find it.
I had one of mine stolen when I was still in college and it was a total twat. Had to redo all of my essays, which ended up being marked late so lost marks, plus code/etc I’d done for my website. Nothing quite as precious as photographs though.
I hope you do find it..

I’m really sorry, I hope you manage to find it. I have my phone number printed on mine so if it’s lost and found you can get in touch with me. If you have assignments on yours, perhaps someone will be able to work out where you go to school and hand it in? That’s what I would do if I found it.

Argh that really sucks! D: Are there any identifying information in the USB? If you can’t find it because someone picked it up, perhaps they’re nosy enough to look through the USB but also kind enough to contact you about it if there’s any contact information on it.
If you lost it at Uni, remember to also try to ask the lost and found office. I hope you can somehow get it back!

oh I’m so sorry! That’s gotta be the worse feeling ever. This doesn’t compare, but the night before a huge project was due (a long long time ago) I was typing something up and putting together images and then the program died on me. I was so shocked that I felt my stomach turn inside out. That has left me with a sense of paranoia where I save my files on the computer, USB and I also email it to myself. I’ll probably still lose something one day..it just happens unfortunately. Hopefully, it’ll turn up somewhere or maybe some kind person will find it and return it.

I’ve had two hard drives die on me without warning (or with not enough warning for me to save their contents, anyway), and I can agree, data loss pretty much sucks.
Hope to your respective deities that somebody will find it, look at it, find your name somewhere, and find a way to return it to you. I accidentally left my flash drive in the library a couple days ago, and after some hunting I was able to track it down. Good luck.

Shit, that completely sucks. I don’t know how much hope there is of finding it…
I guess that’s the thing with technology. It’s so much easier to lose when it’s getting smaller :(
I try and always keep two copies of anything really important, but that’s not always feasible.

Did you name the drive? Maybe someone will find it and look around for someone with the name you gave it. I hope you find it again. I know the feeling. I thought I lost my iPod a couple of days ago, and I use the disk space for more than music, so I freaked when I thought it was lost. I’m sure you;ll find it if it was meant to be.

Aw, man. That really, really sucks. I hope you find it… or someone else finds it and returns it to you.

I’d be really upset too. Hopefully it turns up! If it doesn’t, try not to beat yourself up about it. Shit happens, and there are always new memories to capture :)

*squishy hug*
I hope you find it soon, if not already.
