A Cure For Wanderlust
March 11, 2008 | Filed under Travel
I have this disgusting habit that can only be classified as bad for my mental health, as it draws me into a pool of desire that will not be sated anytime soon.
I visit various airline websites obsessively. And when I say “obsessively” I do mean “multiple times a day”. Surely this cannot be healthy behaviour, especially considering the fact that I’d not be doing much travelling until the end of the year? Looking at prices of plane tickets, especially sale fares, can only continue to break my heart as I think to myself “Darn…if only I didn’t have to go to university and work…”.
I’m constantly saying to my parents:
- Oooh, look, Fiji for $500
- Darwin for $100!
- OMFG, Alice Springs for $30! (there was a sale on)
- <insert place name> for <insert price>!
Places I’ve never been, yet places my curious feet would like to tread upon. I believe the official term is wanderlust. Does anyone have a cure?

I used to do that all the time with Jetstar because of all their great deals. My cure was simple-knowing how hard it would be to find a cat-sitter (or organising a cattery place in short time) and knowing I have to actually work as I have no annual leave hours left. But since my contract ends at the end of the month I will have a lot of free time for travel, I just wont have the funds.
I hope you find a cure for wanderlust.

Perhaps you could relive old travels in your mind. Like, for example, finishing your NZ series of blogs. XP
I mean, there are prolly guys who keep visiting, waiting for that promised picture of you and Nellie, drunkenly flashing.
Not ne, of course. Im more interested in hearing the rest of your trip. :-D

I think the only solid cure is a man who wants to settle down, and you yourself feeling like settling down.

Should we tell them the truth, Amanda? About the lack of drunkenly flashing pictures? Because we’re really getting their hopes up. :P
Do you have a 43 Places account? It’d be both good and bad for the traveller in you.

I do that with a lot of things haha. My parents told me to shut up though, or they’d stuff my mouth with their fists lol

I guess the only cure is lots of off time and a shit load of cash…

I really want to go on an Alaskan cruise next May but it doesn’t look like I will be able to save enough money till May of 2010. Still I find myself obsessively looking at flight times for the trip, trying to see how the price differs from time and days.
BTW I heard that some of the official Airline sites store cookies when you do a flight search and if you keep looking at the same one the price goes up.
