(Almost A) Perfectionist
December 17, 2007 | Filed under Uni/Work
My role in screening applicants for a position at my workplace requires me to go through the resumes handed in with a fine-toothed comb, to better narrow down the field of applicants to someone worthy of a trial.
Needless to say, I’ve seen some doozies of a resume in my time, with spelling and grammatical errors abound, with a work history consisting of ten words, with no contact information at all. (I still wonder how the one with no contact information expected to be contacted about the position…)
However, one particular resume handed in today wins gold, for the simple fact that it is incredibly ironic:
I take pride in my work, whatever it maybe, and have been told that I can be perfectionist.
It’s a pity that their perfectionism doesn’t stretch to checking their resume for spelling and grammatical errors, n’est-ce pas?

It certainly is! I mean, how do you get spelling and grammatical error these days, when you have spelling and grammar checks within MOST authoring/writing applications!?

Ouch! That was embarrassing. Had it been me, I’d have hidden my head in the ground for being stupid.

I’m glad I’ve never applied for a job that I had to type up my own resume for…
I have a rough enough time describing myself in interviews (also attempting to hide the nervous sweatiness) without having to think up a way to describe myself on paper. Hell, Leila and I have had Valamity since September, and we still don’t have an about page. It’s just hard for me to write about myself. Although, of course, it would be impeccably spell/grammar checked. There’s no excuse for that.
Actually, come to think of it, I’ve never actually gotten a job that I had to submit a resume for anyway. I get by fine on nepotism, thank you very much. Scanner operator/computer repairman/apartment painter extraordinaire.
*tips hat*

I guess a lot of people just press the spell check button in their word processing program to find any misspelled words but they are not aware of the grammar errors that the spell check does not pick up.

Yeow, that hurts the true perfectionist inside.
It annoys me when I see stupid mistakes like that, by someone who should know better. And then I look around at my fellow classmates and I begin to understand where it comes from…

I took a peakie at the CVs that came in when the admin work job came up at my place earlier this year, and one person had said that their past responsibilities included “office tying”.. I can only assume it is some sort of work related bondage?
(For those that don’t get it, they obviously meant tidying..)

Lol, amusing.
People are such contradictions sometimes.
