December 11 2007: QOTW: No-Go Zone
Regular readers may remember a fanciful post I wrote earlier in the year, regarding the possibility of having a chance with Hugh Laurie’s son, if not Hugh Laurie himself. After all, surely sexy rumpled manliness carries down through the generations correct?
Apparently not. Mis-matched shoes may be the new ‘hip’ thing in parts of England (I’ve no idea, the British will have to inform me on this), but it looks stupid. Like, really really stupid. If there’s one requirement I have from the men I see, they have to have at least some semblance of fashion sense, or some knowledge of how to dress themselves.
It looks like Charlie Laurie is a no-go zone!
Question of the Week: What, for you, is the one thing about a person that would automatically disqualify them as a “go zone” in your eyes, and turn them into a “no-go zone”?

Kids are obviously a dealbreaker issue — I doubt I could have a long-term relationship with someone who wanted them. But that’s too obvious, so aside from that, erm… well, I can’t say I fancy really stupid guys. I don’t mean “book” stupid, as in he couldn’t tell me how to spell “bourgeoisie” and doesn’t know that a tomato is actually a fruit — I mean good old-fashioned, slack-jawed, drooling, couldn’t find his arse with both hands stupid. Even if he looked like Brad Pitt and had a body like Beowulf, we wouldn’t be together for long. :P

In general, if they have absolutely no sense of humor (which is really hard to accomplish), I’ll have problems.
Apart from that, I have to say lack of intelligence and inability to wear pants properly are factors, too.
At least he picked nice colors to mix. ;)

A guy who brags about the size of their penis.
Because I can’t handle bigger-than-average penises and he’ll just scare me away.
Nellie on December 11 2007 #
Haha. Pen15 is a spam word, by the looks of it.
Reply: That’s bizarre! I’m sure I’ve spoken of penii elsewhere…

Ugh… that is not hip here in Britain, I can assure you. At least, not in my neck of the woods. I don’t rate dress sense all that highly in a man but must admit, really ugly shoes will always score more highly than odd shoes.

Well, as shallow as I am, a no-go zone for me are…:
1- wide thighs…sorry no.
2- hair all over the body
3- bad fashion sense…what was he thinking?
4- stupid guys alla Ashton Kutcher in that dud where’s my car thing…no, no, no…
5- guys who don’t work out and will never aim to…I don’t wanna lose my 30 years old boyfriend cause he had a heart attack after eating 300 kg chips while playing WoW…
6- there’s probably more…
What an interesting question, Amanda!

No-gos are guys that talking about nothing but drinking and parties and getting smashed. Yuck. I’d like them to be a little more interesting than that. Really, anyone stupid or boring will never get far with me.
Aravis on December 11 2007 #
*talk. No sleep for the past 48 hours + caffeine overdose = lost brain cells!
Aravis on December 11 2007 #
Lack of a sense of humour, racism, sexism, stuff like that.
I actually think the mismatched shoes are cool. *hides*
Mari on December 11 2007 #
A go-zone would be an awesome sense of humor.
A no-zone would be bad hygiene.
Sarai on December 11 2007 #
No-go: a guy who wears crocs, ew. A guy who does nothing but get smashed, like Aravis said, that’s just so boring.
Go: humour, definitely. You can get through anything with a good sense of humour.

Smoking. Sometimes I’ll see a cute guy and think “oh. he’s cute” but then that be completely thrown to hell because he takes out a cigarette. Not even the bad breath, bad health, yellowed teeth, etc. I’ve just lost too many people to smoking diseases and wouldn’t take that risk.

Did you see the post on ONTD? It’s a damn shame I tell you!
Alcoholism, Unemployed, no car, drug user, abuser, racist, sexist, cockiness , no humor…
umm…. if I think of any more I’ll tell you lol

Hey I saw your pics from Sydney but didn’t comment. Looks and sounds like you had a great time. The concert looked awesome.
To the question: I used to know a girl (she was a couple years older than me and the “perfect” blonde), she used to always tell me to never date a guy with dirty fingernails. I never listened to her anyway though I still always remember her voice in my head when I see a guy with dirty nails.
My pet hate with men are men who “shine their shoes”, I don’t know why but it immensely annoys me seeing a reasonably looking guy and then having super shiny shoes. Haha I am strange.
Come to think of it, I think it is because it reminds me of my hot but perverted school principal. Ugh.

PS. they actually sell mismatched shoes like that here. I see them all the time.
Reply: :S That’s so grot. What store?
Bobbi-lee on December 12 2007 #
Mis-matched shoes are “common” where I live and have been for quite awhile. Or maybe I just happen to run into the people who wears shoes mis-matched. (That’s a story for another time, though.)
Oddly enough, most people I see with mis-matched shoes wear Converse …

No-go: smelly people who never seem to shower, no sense of humour, intolerance, huge muscles (eww!!) and, honestly I don’t think I could ever be with someone who hates my favourite bands or listens to bands I cannot stand :/
Go: short, slightly feminine boys with make-up, please :P
Kaisa on December 12 2007 #
Eww @ those shoes.
My automatic no-go would be a lack of eye contact.
Kaylee on December 12 2007 #
Um I can’t remember but it was in Harbour Town (the factory direct clearance complex-you would love it for bargains!) somewhere and I saw a few girls buying them. One girl had pink and yellow pair and another had lime green and black!
Oh I think there’s also a store in the city that sells them I’m going to have to take a photo of them for you hehe :p
Bobbi-lee on December 14 2007 #
… Double-you. Tee. Eff. He may look British (redeeming quality … !), but those shoes …
No-Go: Anyone or anything akin to the kind of physical appearance or antics of one Chris Crocker. Shoot me now. Also … gay guys just looking for sex (I swear, it’s almost as bad – if not more so – as the hetero ones). The last time I checked, it wasn’t exactly a stellar achievement if your arse was ten times as loose as the normal person’s.
