November 27 2007: Breath-testing
Filed under Life with 7 Comments
This morning on the way to work (joy…),I was stopped by a police blockade, doing breath-testing on drivers. At nine o’clock in the morning. In a white collar suburb. Because you know, the large majority of people start hard-drinking at that time of the morning, on a weekday.
They’d be better off throwing up blockades in the later hours of Friday and Saturday nights. In my two or so years of driving, and five or so years of going out late at night, I’ve never been pulled over to be breathtested. Combine the two…well that’s a lot of potential “Young lady, please step out of the vehicle”, and “Ma’am, I’m going to have to ask you to surrender your driver’s license”.
Victoria Police, a word of advice. Do your job when it’ll matter most. Nine o’clock on a Tuesday morning doesn’t count as effective policing of the community.
November 26 2007: Scenekid: A Follow Up

So, I was actually contemplating whether or not it would be worth my effort to write that review. My spare time is unfortunately lacking these days (working seven days a week, swimming once a week, volleyball once a week, I had my birthday celebrations, I’m throwing a dinner party later this week, and preparing for Sydney too…), so I was tempted to just let it go. To forget about the idiocy and relegate SceneKid to that corner of my mind that’s inhabited with occasional lol-ing at people like Alyssa of PinUpDoll and Mallory of Mallory Maloney.
Then my previous entry received this comment, courtesy of Scenekid herself:
yeah…thanks for nothing. YOUR FUCKING STUPID IF ALL YOU SPEND YOUR TIME DOING IS TRASHING OTHER PEOPLES SITES! I dont give a shit what you think of my site. Its my fucking site, dont like it? GO suck a lemon bitch. Because this is dumb, ok? your site aint even that great, so what are you talking a bout? oh by the way to all the people who have left a comment trashing me or calling me idiot, YOU THINK I CARE? ahahahahaha, I dont even know you and you dont know me, so fuck off. Ok? dont judge me, because I dont deserve it. You all think your so kool because you own a site? Kiss my ass. I am pissed. I hope all you dumb people grow the fuck up. Get a life & get off the internet. Get a fucking life! Holy. Yall need to get outta the house & get fresh air. Fuck I only go on like twice a week. I am not mentally retarded btw, i do drugs, thats why i sound loopy.
General incompetence with the English language aside, can I just say…lawl? Firstly, it’s obvious that it’s impossible to spend all one’s time trashing other people’s sites - it’s anatomically impossible to not spend at least a portion of one’s time sleeping, eating, defecating, etc. (And in my case, it may be anatomically impossible to go a week without sex).
Secondly, for someone who doesn’t care what I, or others, think of your site…well, you seem to be getting mighty worked up over our insignificant opinions. The distinguished way of getting out of the actions of your idiocy, would simply be to ignore these opinions that you apparently don’t care about.
Thirdly, congratulations for doing drugs. You must be so proud. Unfortunately, it is my firm belief that the reason you sound loopy isn’t because you do drugs. It may be a contributing factor, but in actuality, your ‘loopiness’, idiocy, and general incoherency is a fault of your inferior intelligence and general incompetence. Can’t blame that on drugs.
Her lovely reply is topped off of course, by the lovely message that her website is currently sporting:
I am updating, come back later…oh & all the people trashing my site, you can FUCK OFF!
Mmm, how eloquent.
So, considering my time is currently limited (I’m not truly free until mid-December, which is a bitch in terms of how much ’site trashing’ I can conceivably do) and I can’t review her site (a coward’s way out is removing the site?), this is an open invitation to everyone who reads this blog. Flame her. Tell her she’s an idiot. Do what I would do if I had the luxury of time.
November 25 2007: New Leadership

After eleven long years under the Howard Government, which consistently trumpets their excellent economics policy and the benefits that Australian families enjoy under their governance (what, rising house prices and inadequate public facilities? a racist, homogenised society?), a new dawn has arrived. Kevin Rudd and the Labor Party will be governing Australia.
I’m proud to say I did my bit as well, voting yesterday afternoon. Courtesy of our recent move, I was actually voting for the first time in an electorate which has the potential to swing towards either of the two larger political parties. For the first time in my life, my vote actually meant something (and did, with a Labor win). The electorate in which I used to live (yes Jess, me too!) is predominantly Liberal, with Peter Costello as the candidate, so really, my working class vote had no impact.
As usual, Greens leader Bob Brown put it best:
Welcome Kevin Rudd, new prime minister of Australia. This is a remarkable night for the Australian people, for a new era for this country - to tackle climate change, to tackle social inequality and to give this country back the pride that it is socially just, outward looking, and cares for the environment and the lifestyle of our grandchildren.
Welcome Kevin Rudd. May you turn this country into the socially progressive society it has the potential to be.
