QOTW: Chocolate Fountain

November 6, 2007 | Filed under Q.O.T.W.

I’d been racking my brain to come up with a concept for the food component of my party – what after all, could fit in with the theme of “Luxury, Decadence, Indulgence”? Then it hit me. A chocolate fountain (link).

After all, what’s more decadent than warm liquid chocolate, gushing in a fountain? Caviar is another option, but I’m certainly not going to serve caviar to a group of twenty-somethings who all plan on getting smashed due to the copious amount of champagne, wine, and spirits that I’ll have available. Honestly, it would just come right back up.

However, I’m uncertain as to what type of foodstuffs could be provided to be dipped into the fountain. I’m currently thinking: cherries, strawberries, waffles, unsalted pretzels, marshmallows, small balls of Haagen Daaz. The Haagen Daaz might be problematic (how on earth can I keep it from melting in a room full of hot bodies writhing together?), but all others are fairly simple…however, is it really enough?

So, as I missed this yesterday due to my emo-ness:

Question of the Week: What would you personally like to dip into a chocolate fountain?

  3. Mmm chocolate fountains look so delicious! I see them in chocolate shop display windows sometimes, absolutely mouth watering.

However, I heard you really need to pick your chocolates carefully… the more cheap the chocolate the less well it flows or something?

  4. I don’t have a chocolate fountain, but I do have a chocolate pot I like to bring out during parties. Some of the things I have had during the past are strawberries, angel food cake, pretzels, cream puffs, pineapple, marshmallows, grapes (which are amazing in chocolate), and bananas. Something I would like to do in the future is serve various fruits in the shape of balls, but I need to wait until I can find this magical tool that makes perfectly shaped little spheres of watermelon. I think the Haagen Daaz balls are an amazing idea, but like you said, how do you do that, especially in a hot party environment.

  5. Personally into a chocolate fountain…haha my fiance

But in regards to your party, I think marshmellows and strawberries are perfect. I love chocolate fountains. Just hope no one spits in it, or gets sick on it!

  6. how the heck do u get haagen daaz? can you buy it in melb? I thought coles stopped stocking it… tell me where to get if you know where… =P

make sure drunk kids don’t stick their tongue on the chocolate fountain contaminating it…

the only way I could recommend keeping ice cream balls.. is put it into ice cube trays.. and then put the trays on ice… when it melts.. pick up the whole tray.. and refreeze (that is if u have access to freezer)

any sort of fruit u can dip in i suppose.. kiwi slices.. personally i like sour + sweetness of chocolate.. heh..

  7. The German guy I was flirting with when I talked to you on MSN last night. Yes, I kid you not, madam. he would be very delicious with chocolate, whipped cream AND ice cubes, yes? ;)

And what be Haagen Daaz? I honestly haven’t a clue, so I shall proceed to Wikipedia it, but it undoubtedly sounds delectable. I, too, agree that caviar sounds le gross; not ideal for people who will collectively drink their way into a coma.

  11. Pound cake. Seriously. I’ve never had a chocolate fountain, but chocolate fondue is probably almost as good. Pound cake, chocolate, and strawberries. HEAVEN.

  12. *smirks* Wouldn’t you like to know?

… I know you’d LIKE to know, but… damn. That line didn’t work out well.

Spoonfuls of peanut butter. I’d have Reese’s PB Cups that way :P

  14. Wow, that chocolate fountain is so cool! I loooove chocolate covered pretzels, so that’s probably what I’d be dipping in it.

  15. I suppose the fountain is basically chocolate fondue – other than the items you mentioned, I love any fruits, especially honeydew and cantaloupe.

  16. Try dipping cheese. It sounds nasty but its amazing!

  17. the ice cream sounds really REALLY good! maybe put them in a bowl and then put the bowl over a tub of ice…though that melts…you really need to get like liquid nitrogen or something…that stuff’s cold…sorry i have chem lab tomorrow, hehe.

anyway…probably any fresh fruit into chocolate sounds good, maybe mangoes (never tired it); tangy + sweet. I’ve had them in cakes and in vanilla ice cream and it was then best!

  18. My fingers and lick it. Hahaha. Basic necessity.

But if I couldn’t have that/him, I’d totally go for strawberries. Yummmmm.
