November 1 2007: A Princess’s Search For A Prince

So, I’ve just spent four hours watching The Princess Diaries, and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Yes, this is despite the fact that I vehemently dislike Anne Hathaway and believe that her rightful place in the world hierarchy is in a junk yard. At the bottom of a mountain of trash. With a dog pooping on her head.

Regardless of this dislike however, I did quite enjoy both movies. Cute, cheesy, fluffy, predictable – exactly the type of movie fare I need to aid in my militant procrastination pre-exams next week. Very family-friendly, like all other Disney offerings.

What most stuck out to me however, was the scene in the sequel where Mia watches a slideshow of the world’s eligible princes and titled nobility in the search for a husband. Prince William was shown as an example of the quintessential Prince Charming, and though I have fangirled over him in the past, I’m left wondering…is he really the cream of the crop when it comes to bachelors in the nobility? Or can I do better?

The situation really called for an examination then, curtosy of Wikipedia entries and Google Image Search, of the various European princely bachelors under the age of 40, and above the age of 18, and then, to list them in order of preference.

  1. England: Prince Harry
  2. Monaco: Prince Andrea
  3. Belgium: Prince Amadeo
  4. Monaco: Prince Pierre
  5. England: Prince William
  6. Sweden: Prince Carl Philip
  7. Albania: Prince Leka
  8. Luxembourg: Prince Felix
  9. Liechtenstein: Prince Wenzeslaus
  10. Luxembourg: Prince Guillaume
  11. Greek/Denmark: Prince Philippos

Contestants were judged by their cool factor, their hotness factor, their fun factor, and their “would I want to wake up beside this man in fifty years time without any regrets” factor.

But really, I just want a bit of Harry.

  1. I have reason to believe that Harry has a more-than-sufficiently-sized wang, due to some image I saw several weeks ago, but with that said, YOU LIKE HARRY?! My respect for you just got bumped down a few notches. William all the way! :P

How I heart ideals. I like your list there, Amanda. *applauds* *does Google search*

PS: Wenzeslaus. Remind me of a song … *sings incessantly*

  2. 1. Prince Guillaume
    2. Prince Carl Philip
    3. Prince Felix
    4. Prince Amadeo
    5. Prince Leka
    6. Prince Harry

Guillaume has always been a favorite of mine, he’s really grown into his looks now. I really love the Luxembourg princes if only because they;re half latino. :)
But Carl Philip looks like Orlando Bloom!! <3 <3

I really feel nothing for the Casaraghi’s anymore, they used to be really good looking when they were younger…

And for a prince from Asia, Prince Hashem of Jordan is a real looker, although he got married a few years ago :(

  3. Harry? Besides him being ugly (my opinion), he is an idiot (my opinion). I’d go William all the time if it weren’t for the fact that every time we’d have sex, it’d look like I’m doing Diana. :-(

  4. Oh I liked the books much better, so much more fun. Though Julie Andrews as Queen Clarice is very good (in the book the character is very mean… well she does have some redeeming points).
I like PD1, but PD2 was mostly boring. The guy was too much of a Gary Stu.

As for favorite royalty: Prince William of course :D

Harry? NO WAY! Most especially since my grandfather is a survivor of the Holocaust (the rest of his then living family died there). Ever since he found it fun to dress up as a nazi, I’ve been turned off.

Plus, well I always like Prince William much better :P

  5. Harry is definitely the better choice, because we already know he likes to bite. There are pictures of it on the internet. ^_^

  6. Harry is the top, obviously, but Pierre >>>> Andrea. It’s just a fact.

  7. Prince Andrea FTW!!!

  8. Prince Harry = Prince William. But in ‘dating’ terms: Prince Harry > Prince William.

Don’t care about the rest. :P

  9. When I read that you had spent four hours watching PD, I thought you meant just the second … and went “OH MY GOD! SHE LOVES CHRIS PINE, TOO!” then realised orite! :P

Reply: I had a dream about Chris Pine last night. :P A sexy dream.

  10. Hm.

I feel left out and a bit insufficient — Who are these people called “princes”?

And that’s how much I’m into the royalties of the world … Practically nowhere near interested =P

They do look kind of yummy though … At least Sweden’s.

(Btw Amanda, long time, no commenting =))

  11. I’d take someone who wasn’t born into their role over a prince any day :D

You’re so right about Anne Hathaway, though. (Btw, I loved your review of The Devil Wears Prada!)

  12. You should have linked to their pictures instead of the wikipedias. Attractiveness is sooooo more important. Although I did see that I share the same birthday as number 2, so I guess the articles were good for something!

  13. I was going to say what Gem said… I need to see pictures.
From the ones that did have pictures-ew not my type.
Money, royalty and looks aren’t everything, I would much rather be with someone who is “my type” and perfectly suited than someone with power.

  14. Prince Amadeo of Belgium is cute. O_O

    Too bad no Irish guys…

  16. I prefer the Disney Princes to be honest… actually I was going to make a post about about Disney Princes.

I don’t think any of those princes are very good-looking… so it’s okay that I never wanted to be a princess.

  17. I really like Prince Leka, he is really tall, cute and smart, but most off all he gives me the impression that he really wants to change his country and make a difference, where as non of the others are doing really that much.

  18. I’ve seen quite a few good looking Princes or Royals. The most attractive out of the 11 is Prince Felix. Prince Felix is by far the most best looking Royal. Felix of Luxembourg is exceedingly beautiful, drop dead gorgeous and model-esque handsome. He would put all the hot hollywood actors, atheletes and models to shame.
