August 28 2007: Last-Ditch Effort
After coming to the realisation that my non-academic/money-related extracurricular activities are woefully few and far-between (i.e. none whatsoever), I’ve decided to be pro-active about expanding the range of activities and achievements that I’ll be able to list on my CV.
As such, I am now officially a participant in my university’s “Language Exchange” program, where I spend up to two hours each week with someone of mainland Chinese origin (e.g. a foreign exchange student who’s only just moved to Australia, as opposed to a white-washed devil of a Chinese girl like myself). I help them with their English, they help me with my Chinese. It’s a win-win situation. Additionally, as of February next year, I’ll also officially be a Senior Mentor to new foreign students - organising get togethers and other activities to help them acclimatise to living in Melbourne.
A friend (she may get to this blog through my Facebook profile…I don’t know) is also going to introduce me to a tutoring/homework help program, whereby us university students help high schoolers from disadvantaged backgrounds with their homework, improving study skills and the like. I may even see if I can join my cousin’s volleyball group on Thursday nights, and am considering starting up a student group on campus next year (the focus of the group is yet to be decided…I just like the idea of being able to put “President of XYZ society” on my CV).
This may be a last-ditch effort to improve future job prospects as employers like candidates with extracurricular interests and proven leadership skills, but hey. A last-ditch effort is better than no effort at all.

ooh new layout!
Anyway, last-ditch effort is definitely better than nothing. Those activities sound kinda fun, so it should be a good experience for you too.
My brother joined a fraternity to boost his extracurriculars, which he knew he would need for internships/jobs in law firms. Even though it was only during his last year, I’m sure it has paid off now…so you’re good!
I on the other hand will probably have nothing. The only things I really, REALLY want to do are tutoring and research - kinda standard. So good job for thinking of attempting a bunch of different things!

Hello new layout! You are very sexy, yes!
I don’t plan on doing anything extracurricular when I get to Uni. I never did anything of the sort in high school and I turned out okay… somewhat.
I don’t think they have anything that even interests me at the university I’ll be going to.
