I’ve Created A Monster!

I’ve created a monster.
You may not be aware that I’m fairly active on eBay. I buy and sell quite a lot on there – and am incredibly proud of the fact that I have 100% positive feedback. In the past, my parents have threatened me with bodily harm if I continued to spend my money on eBay items (forget the fact that I more than make back the money spent with the things that I sell…).
However in the past few weeks, they’ve most definitely changed their tune. It started when I sold a freezer on eBay for them. Then I sold a rice cooker. Then I sold a bug zapper. Basically, I’ve been selling off bits and pieces from the shop before the move next month.
Suddenly they’ve realised that eBay is a gift from the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and that the items listed on eBay are generally discounted heavily when compared to their RL counterparts. As we’re renovating the new house before we move in, my mother’s continually saying to me:
- Can you look at prices of curtain rods on eBay?
- Doorknobs? Prices?
- Locks…oh, and a new remote control for the garage door.
- How much are hallway rugs?
- Chairs! We need new chairs!
She currently has her eye on some black leather upholstered chairs to match our black dinner table, because they’re half the price of what she saw in Freedom Furniture, even when you calculate the shipping into the price.
She’s well be on her way to becoming an eBay addict.

This post reminds me of Becky Bloomwood in Shopaholic when she got totally hooked on eBay and sold her furnitures. Haha.

Great that you believe in the flying spaghetti monster! (as a member of a faculty of Theology, don’t laugh, I too am a believer in the powers of the FSM, and practice pastafarianism in my daily life)

You mean kind of like my stepmom who yelled at me for years for ‘wasting away my days’ and that ‘I needed sun’ and that being online was pointless? My dad was on her side until he realized I could make him a site. She constantly reminded me, as though I were stupid, that he didnt want fairies on his layout–of course not realizing only two of my layouts (one at that time) have had fairies. And then changing her tune now that she realizes I get a lot of visitors and she decides that I could be of use in advertising her weight loss program for her so she can make money.
Its amazing how they criticize without knowing the whole story and then, when it is good for them, change their minds.

I tried to bid for an item there once and I didn’t get it and I have not returned there since. lol. It’s all about amazon for me, baby! :D
My mom’s “ebay” is youtube. She used to think it was evil. But now, she’s always like, “Can you look up funny comedians on youtube?” or “Can you look up the dance steps for this song on youtube?” It drives me crazyyyyy.

Thank god my mom doesn’t care much about surfing. If she would, she would probably sit in front of Ebay all day ;)

My parents sometimes look around on the Dutch equivalent of Ebay and made some offers but never heard back from the seller (even afer having the highest bid) so they aren’t as into it as your parents.
Also, here people want to come to your house to check the item out and they don’t want strangers in their house, which I can imagine considering the weird stories you hear lately
