July 29 2007: Matthew 5:39

Filed under Politics with 16 Comments

Recently a video surfaced of the dean of the archdiocese of Melbourne, Reverend Monsignor Geoffrey Baron, Dean of St. Patrick’s Cathedral here in the city. In this video, he was apparently verbally provoked by a group of teenagers on church grounds.

He retaliated with such clever comments as:

  1. Get off the property you fucking cunts.
  2. Go back to where you come from, you don’t belong in Australia…little foreigner there, look at the slanty eyes, black hair.
  3. You’re stained by the sperm of all these boys that fucked you.

He was also shown trying to kick one of the teenagers, and taunting a teenager’s physical appearance (calling him “four eyes” for wearing glasses).

An official apology has been made by the Catholic Church for his behaviour…but isn’t it heartening to know that the religious education of Melbourne Catholics is in the hands of such a non-biased, open-minded and eloquent member of the Church?

Whatever happened to “…If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also” (Matthew 5:39)?

July 28 2007: (Not Really) A Feminist

Filed under Politics with 9 Comments

Despite the fact that I have feminist leanings in most aspects of life, love, and work, I have to admit that sometimes I think there would be nothing more desirable than to be a chick in a bikini shaking my thang in a gangsta video.

I’d like to try my hand being a burlesque dancer, a Pussycat Doll, or a lapdancer. I think I’d make an excellent mistress of a wealthy man. Given the opportunity and chance, I could probably be more uselessly decorative than Paris Hilton. Sometimes I fantasise about being a hooker. I like sex anyway, so why not be paid for it?

I don’t morally object to selling one’s body, so realistically, there’s nothing stopping me from doing any of the above. I’d probably even find it empowering and get a rush out of it.

Does it make me any less of a feminist? No.

In my eyes, feminism isn’t just about trying to prove one’s capabilities by fruitlessly showing off all the reasons why you don’t need a man in your life, and why girl power is the be all and end all. Feminism is about having the choice to do what you want. And occasionally, I want nothing more than to walk around half-naked.

July 27 2007: Eighteen-Years-Old

So, I’ve been fangirling over Hugh Laurie and House M.D. for awhile now (ask anyone - I’ve subjected many people to House rambling on MSN).

I fantasise a bit. I mean, sure, Hugh Laurie might be forty-eight, but he’s still so totally boneable. I’d do him any day. Or night. Anywhere. Anyhow.

Then I find out he’s married with kids, and I get a bit iffy. Sex is great, but you wouldn’t really want to get yourself into a situation like that, would you? Not really. Wife, kids…it’s all a bit much. If it was just the wife, I wouldn’t care, but kids as well? Whole different ball game.

So I Wikipedia him. And I realise Hugh Laurie has a son! More accurately, he has an eighteen-year-old son. Even more accurately, he has an eighteen-year-old son, and I currently have a predilection for eighteen-year-old guys (after much testing of said subjects, I have come to the conclusion that younger men are more willing to please).

Fingers crossed Charlie Laurie is just like his old man!
