July 4 2007: Huge Man Calves (and Boots)

You know how after you’ve been looking for something for months, and then you finally find it at half the original price, your heart kind of skips a beat and your brain starts going insane?

Yeah that happened to me today. I’ve been looking for a pair of plain black boots for the longest time – low heeled, round toed, leather (none of that synthetic stuff), that went up to my knee. It’s hard when everything this season seems to be pointy toed, or stiletto heeled, or synthetic, or you know, unable to be done up over your huge man calves1.

I’m at my local department store today, like I am almost every week, and suddenly, I spot a pair of boots that I swear hadn’t been around the ten million previous times I’d been in the store.

To be perfectly crude, they put the “fuck me” into “fuck me boots”. Originally priced at $139.95AUD, they were reduced to $89AUD, then further reduced to $66AUD after an extra 25% off. Essentially…less than half the original price.

Best thing is, I can either wear them up (over the knee with a miniskirt), or folded down (knee length with skinny jeans or leggings). I love it! (And really needed it, considering that my other pair of black boots have been letting in rain through the sole for the past few weeks!)

1I do, and have done in the past, a lot of walking up hills for exercise – hence my developed soccer-player-esque calf muscles.

  1. Those sound like my perfect shoes. I can never find anything round toes and low heeled ever. I don’t mind pointy toed, but the heel is what kills me, because all the low heeled ones are the ugly chunky school-girl-shoes types.

  3. I have huge calves haha. But in Indonesia, wearing boots would give you weird stares, which sucks. I have a few couple of boots I haven’t been able to wear at all, except in Hong Kong.

Those boots look spiffy!! Me wants to have one now.

  4. Those are some damn sweet boots. I prefer mine a little more shit-kicky, but for a lady those are great.

  6. I admire your shopping abilities. I never manage to catch anything I’m lusting after on sale. And those boots – they’re hot. If only I wasn’t in the middle of an insanely humid summer. Boots just aren’t tolerable in this weather…

  7. You have teh man calves too? I feel your pain. :(

The only boots I could get to fit me at the shoe store were these ridiculous dominatrix boots, but that’s okay, because I’m more partial to the kickin’ boots, like Jack.

  8. Snap! My first pair of stilettos were 50% off when I bought them too, I saw them the month before at its full price :-)

  9. I’ve considered those boots before. Unfortunately, the lack of a heel is the only thing that turned me away. I like a cute heel.

  13. That truly is the best feeling in the world EVER, I heart sales!!! I’m so glad you got your boots, I have similar calf problems, I’m really short with tiny feet so the smaller sizes in boots are harder to fit around my calves, its so sad :( I feel your pain!

  14. Great boots and awesome deal!

I have a pair of boots that could do with replacement, they let in water too. But I guess I’ll just have to wait until after summer because right now I just want to save some money to spend during my holiday :D
