July 2 2007: QOTW: Lethargy
While Nellie‘s out and about getting her socks rocked off today, I’ve spent my day at work, and I’m now looking forward to a couple of hours watching season 1 of House. I’ve never actually watched any of it before (it kind of goes hand in hand with not watching any television…ever), so it better be worth the $25AUD I paid for the set.
Yeah, I’m kinda aware of how potentially sad and lonely this situation is. It’s the middle of university holidays, and yet my social life is near non-existent as I’m working six days a week. After a long day at work, I generally want to do nothing but lounge in bed watching DVDs on my laptop. It doesn’t make sense really – I work to earn money to spend, but become so tired from working that I don’t have the energy to spend money on anything other than buying on eBay (which in itself, is a noble pursuit, but not quite up to the standards of buying a Vodka Sunrise while out on the pull with the girls).
Lethargy and a perpetual inability to keep one’s eyes open is a real bitch.
Question Of The Week: Has your schedule ever prevented you from enjoying a healthy social life, and what did you do to combat it?
P.S. Please answer with remedies, I’m desperate! I want my life back!

Work less?
Is it possible to ask for fewer shifts? Sounds like you’re nearing burning out.
BTW, wow bright yellow layout! *puts on sunglasses*
Reply: Thought about that. :P No can do – I need to earn another $1000 before uni starts again in order to fully pay my Semester Two fees to get the 20% upfront payment discount.

Quit your job and find a sugar daddy.
Moving on to more pleasant subjects: HOUSE! OMG HOUSE LET ME COUNT THE WAYS I LOVE THEE… wait that’d take up way too much room. Let’s just say that it comes with the Becky seal of approval and hell, that’s the best kind there is.

We’re all experiencing burnout. Argh.
I don’t have a social life because of my schedule, but recently I have been going out on Saturday nights. *shocker* I dedicated Saturday night to “fun” and the rest of the week I spend in school work. I have yet to create an “exercise night” I really have to slim down for our graduation photo shoot! *sigh*

Ahhh season one of House!! That show is so captivating… I honestly don’t like blood so I only watch it for the drama.
Would you like to exchange links?
I really enjoy your content!

I thought you were going to be a fellow person who suffers from insomnia, but apparently not. My dad’s suffering from a burn out at the moment. You might need the money for Uni but you can’t carry on ‘burning the candle at both ends’ because you might make yourself ill.
… until then, enjoy your House watching!

Have you seen my schedule? Have you SEEN my schedule? It’s all work no play. Hours at school, an hour to get home, an hour to rest and eat, an hour to study, an hour to go online, an hour to study some more, no time to talk to/visit my friends. Grrr… Though I make the most of it by socialising during school hours :-) Oh and ridiculous amounts of time away from home on the weekends.

I went through a phase when my Mam was ill of not being able to go out, because my Dad would be out and someone had to look after my sister. I basically had to ride it out.

I work an afternoon/evening shift and it’s seriously starting to get on my nerves. I don’t get home until almost 10.30 most nights, well past time to go anywhere or do much of anything.
(Not to mention most of my friends work normal job hours and so go to bed an hour or two after I get off work…)

House… one of the most awesome shows in existence.
I usually go out after work if I have the next day off. That way I still have a full day of rest before my next shift. :)

oh gosh, definitely. lab is way too long. This coming Fall I will have a 3 hour lab, a 5 hour gap, and a 1 hr 20 min lecture on one of my days…then a 4 hr lab the day after! I always end up with gaps which is tricky because it’s not really enough time to do anything, especially when you have class.
But I just try to make the actual time in class/lab fun (if that makes sense). I’m lucky where I have friendly lab partners and we end up joking around and stuff which makes it more bearable. Then I use those messy time gaps to finish work…basically cram the work/class together. Then..free time! Where I can do what I want. I agree the starting is the hardest, but just convince yourself it’ll be more fun than sitting around.

*bounds in with a huge grin on her face*
I don’t mean to rub it in… my sudden social life that is, but my socks stayed on… everything else come off however.
I think you need to move to NZ. Student Loans WIN!
