June 9 2007: Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?
There’s to be a new game show launched in Australia by Rove McManus (the Australian Jay Leno), to be named “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?”. From what I gathered from an article I read today, it’s based on a similar concept in America, where adults are pitted against ten and eleven year olds in a series of common-knowledge questions.
The website of Roving Enterprises (McManus’s production team) is advertising for “smart, funny, outgoing…kids who are currently in Year 5 (Grade 5) to be regular cast members of this exciting new Quiz Show”. Improper capitalisation aside, the first thing that happened upon reading this was dollar signs rapidly zipping in front of my eyes.
Dollar signs? What could this new TV show actually do for someone who’s twenty years old and clearly over the hill? WELL…this twenty year old has a younger brother who’s in fifth grade. A younger brother who happens to have inherited some of the smart Chan genes (but not all, because we all know that no one is smarter than Amanda).
Are you thinking what I’m thinking? YA I AM!

hahahah, go for it!
yeah it’s been on for a couple months (?) in the States now. I don’t watch it, but I saw a few minutes of it once…they ask really obscure questions like..”when’s Columbus Day” but the guy who didn’t know how to solve for the side of a triange was kinda sad…A=1/2bh!
and I like the new colors..pretty and soothing.

Hahahaha. You only exploit your little brother out of love, though, right? ;)

They did something similar in a tabloid newspaper here. They asked a group of children a set of questions, then a group of adults the same question. It was quite embarrassing when the children got it but the adults didn’t.

Hurray for money!
You should try pretending to be the right age, that way you would be sure to get the money. But of course we’re all counting on you to properly educate your brother. ;)

I can’t believe you’d whore out your brother like that!

It recently debuted here as well (a week or two ago)… and I’d never go. Why? 5th grade Biology and me… well any grade Biology and have never gotten along :P
Now for the Maths part, I would go :D

I watched this show here, once or twice. Hey! Maybe, after exploiting your brother like that, you can become a contestant on the show! :D

$$$! :D
I won’t be surprised if some of the kids are “smarter” than the adults… many adults simply forget what they learnt in history class or geography class because it’s been decades since they’ve learnt such information. Also, they might not even HAVE learnt that information when they were in year 5.

See younger brothers can come in handy sometimes! (besides the good excuse to watch a Pixar or Disney movie ;) )
