May 28 2007: QOTW: Onslaught Of The White Witch
Filed under Body & Fashion & Life & Q.O.T.W.
It’s gotten to that stage of the year where I:
- Add an extra blanket to my bed and pray that I won’t wake up with frostbite
- Refuse to leave the house unless I’ve got three layers on
- Permanently have black woollen fingerless gloves on (so I can type properly)
- Don’t bother to wax my legs
- Invest in a new patterned umbrella to match my latest favourite outfit
- Search in vain for that perfect thick woollen cardigan that doesn’t empty my bank account
- Drink tea instead of water because heck, tea warms a person up
- Dig my Ugg boots out of hibernation to wear around the house (never out!…unless it’s minus degrees outside and my toesies are about to fall off)
Yes, winter is back with a vengeance. Melbourne has been deluged under a torrent of rainfall in the past few weeks, and while we certainly need it as our water reserves are bordering on empty and we’re facing a water shortage crisis, it does send shivers up my spine. Not in the metaphorical sense either. So…
Question Of The Week: How do you cope with dramatic changes in weather in your part of the world?

When the heat goes up, well I’d scream and bring a fan everywhere with me or turn the air conditioner up to 16 degrees Celsius. I can’t take the heat = =”
No snow here so I can’t talk about the cold. But when rain comes and I’m super cold, well, it’ll get ugly :P

I stay in bed :).
Not a luxury for some, but hey, you asked!

Hm: mittens, three layers of clothing AND a wool coat, hat, boots…and constant, CONSTANT complaining about the snow. :D
(First time commenting, here, though I have been reading your blog for a while. I like your writing style!)

It’s nearly summer here in England (ha ha!), but lots and lots and lots of rain nevertheless. As for dramatic changes in weather, you just don’t have them in England. People make a huge deal of it when it snows, though.

Where I am at the moment, it goes from pleasant to holyfuckitshot and back. I deal with that mostly by bitching about it and not leaving the house after eleven in the morning or before three in the afternoon if I can avoid it. :)
One thing I do not miss about living further north, though, is the cold. I like never needing a jacket warmer than my denim, though it makes me a little sad I hardly have excuse to wear any of my neat gloves anymore.

I live in Canada … the cold is nothing, pfft. :P The only thing I find difficult to do during the winter is waking up, because you just want to crawl underneath your blankets and hibernate or something ;).

Every day in Pennsylvania is a dramatic weather change. One day it can be 80, and the next can be 50. I’ve seen snow in May, and I’ve felt 90 degree weather in May. You can never really predict the weather here. Plus, my town sits on a flood plain, so any time it rains really hard, half the town is shut down.

Dramatic change pretty much defines Ohio weather. I’ve seen it go from 80 degrees to below freezing within a day or two, and when it gets cold, I just pile on the layers. But right now, the temperature’s in the high 70s/low 80s and it’s perfect. Yay summer! :P

well, since I live in Southern California, there really never is any weather change. It’s pretty much just hot and sunny all the time. But when it actually does get cold, I love it. I dig out my nice coats and many scarves and enjoy not sweating…even though I’m way more prone to feeling cold than most people. but alas, cold weather doesn’t last very long!

Oh gosh. I dislike winter with a passion!
The weather has been really unpredictable here. Yesterday, it was raining and cold but today, it was nice, sunny and warm. Well, I can’t really bitch about it when its cold and it rains because that’s what its like 2/3 of the time. I live in Seattle and its called the Rainy City because it does rain a lot here.
But after the long rainy months and I see the sun again, I go crazy! I’m a sun-worshipper so it really makes me happy :D

I like piling blankets on me when it gets cold, but it’s rather inconvenient when I have to go outside.

Trenchcoat. There’s a reason it’s part of my other email. I’m looking to buy a pair of gloves and a scarf though.

I can’t say that there is ever dramatic weather changes around here. Denmark is usually just… Grey and rainy. Of course we have sunny and warm days and a long winter but they merge nicely. I can’t go through a winter without moonboots!

Well, I live in Norway, so go figure… :p
I don’t have an answer to your question. I guess we just put on warm clothes and go out, even though it is 20 minus Celsius.
We drink lots of hot chocolate and continue with our lives since it is impossible to escape the cold.
But we do bother to wax our legs though, hihihi :p
It freaks me out to have hair there or any other place..

We don’t really have winter here, but when the heat reaches 120*F I try to stay inside as much as possible.

weather changes for me are disastrous due to my arthritis so I don’t cope I take a pill and lay in bed lol..
In general, I just switch the wardrobe in my closet from summer to winter clothes and back

I wonder if Sydney is better off here, lots of cold, not much rain though. Sometimes sunny, but inside it’s still cold.
I have to pile on 2 layers of towels on my bed so I don’t freeze at night (and it’s not even the peak of winter yet), and sleep in my day clothing under my pjs so I don’t freeze to death. I’m contemplating wearing socks to sleep too now.
