May 1 2007: Poetic Bloggers Contest

Filed under Family & Media & Online

Who would have thought that my bad Vogon-esque poetry could get me the chance to win a USB drive? Check out Stretsh’s contest…and perhaps vote for me?

And in other news, my brother and I have a game. Yes, another game.

Basically, we play a song on my iTunes, and one of us has to guess which song it is (title and artist) before the vocals kick in. More often than not, I manage to guess the song after only ten seconds (no mean feat when you’ve got almost 2000 songs in the library!). He however, doesn’t recognise the song until the chorus…if he recognises it at all.

On a side note, I’ve taught him how to do the Macarena, as the Macarena phenomenon predated his birth. He’s obsessed with it now, just as he was obsessed with Britney Spears and the Spice Girls when I introduced him to the awesomeness that is their music. I’ve taught him well (and formally renounce any responsibility for bullying he might suffer in high school as a result of his musical taste).

  1. How old is your brother if the Macarana predated his birth?!

    Reply: He’s 10. :P

  2. OMG! Crazy! You should teach him how to appreciate all 90s music. It’s like GOLD. A lot of DJs are remixing 90s music into dance tracks now…. =D

  3. Of course, the Spice Girls and Britney Spears are the kind of musical upbringing any little boy should have.

  4. I used to play that game with my roommate freshman year! Unlike you, I have over 5,000 songs. I’m still pretty good at it though, answering the question within 3 to 10 seconds. Some songs are just that memorable. They should totally turn this idea into a game show. I’ll be sure to check out the contest!

  5. I think I first danced to the macarena in kindergarten. My current Literature teacher re-introduced it to us (we dance in his class, so we’ll stay awake), and I suddenly realized how odd the lyrics were. I never paid attention to them in kindergarten. :D

  6. Haha, unlike you, I’m musically challenged. I can hardly remember the lyrics of my favourite song, let alone recognize it by it’s beginning tunes.

And if you can write Vogon poetry, I think I can confess to being an Azgoth at heart.

  7. I’ve already voted for Belinda :P. Good luck with that poetry though. Anyway - we do exactly the same! But we have the addition of the music channel instead and we have to “turn our heads away”. It’s so frustrating. I can only get the more recent songs or classics.

  8. Now teach him the Nutbush, and then the Bus Stop. And then YMCA and the Time Warp. Only then can he call himself a true 90’s dance master. Mwahaha!

  9. Oh Manda, how could you be so cruel? :P

  12. Haha! I’m not too fond of Britney anymore but the Spice Girls, on the other hand… :) And I do remember the Macarena. XP

    I voted for you. :)
