Messenger Issues

April 19, 2007 | Filed under Online

I’m not a happy chappy. For some reason, I can’t sign onto MSN Live Messenger on this laptop, though I can sign in on Web Messenger, and it’s intensely pissing me off. Why isn’t it working? Why?

Does anyone have any experience with a problem like this? I’m on Windows Vista if that helps, running Windows Defender and the standard Windows firewall.

ETA: There’s nothing more satisfying than singing “andele andele mama e.i. e.i. uh ohhhhhhh”. Old school Nelly FTW.

  1. I have no idea, have you tried installing it more than once? If worse comes to the worst, then I guess Meebo.com to the rescue?

  2. MSN is always fucking me over.

It has sprees where it just won’t sign me on at all… but I think your problem sounds different.

    I was fantastic help wasn’t I?

  3. Live Messenger didn’t work on my Vista computer either. It’s weird though because it was developed for Vista.

  4. Gah. I forgot > cuts comments.

Download MSN Messenger 7.5 and use the automatic update instead of the direct download. Aside from a few crashes when I try to open received files, it works fine.

  5. For god’s sake don’t use the windows firewall and stuff.

  6. Maybe you could use Trillian if it just doesn’t work. Otherwise, stick to MSN. MSN is still better than Trillian.

  7. I’d have nooo idea as to why it’s happening to you – and sadistic this may sound – but I’m somewhat relieved that I’m not the only person it happens to. Mind you, I’m not on windows vista. Still.

  9. Vista = wonderful.

    Live Messenger, also = Wonderful

I use MSN Live whatnotsit on my Vista laptop, no problems. Check the security and make sure its not blocked.

PS: Derek said it sucks on Macs… WINDOWS live messenger, who would have guessed.

PPS: Ty insisted I say Windows not MSN. I didn’t wanna change it and ended up writing a lot else instead. Ohwell. Hope it gets fixed.

  10. I don’t know what to tell you. :/ I have a Vista computer but my Windows Live Messenger works fine on it.

  11. I don’t use Vista, but my MSN gives me trouble too sometimes (on Windows XP). I think it’s my firewall that’s causing the issues though, when I change settings it usually works fine. =)

  12. I use Trillian if I want to go on MSN. I don’t use Vista either. I won’t buy it for the next 2 years. Microsoft is kind of a wuss when it comes to new releases.

  13. Try using Gaim. It will let you use multiple messengers at once.

  14. It might already have been said, but try running another firewall than the windows one. I don’t know much about Vista as I don’t use it so I can’t really help in that department. Did you try downloading the latest messenger again?

  15. Mine keeps freezing on me. It’s driving me crazy. I’m going to kill it.

  16. I can’t help you. I often have issues with Live Messenger – sometimes I can’t sign in either. In general my computer deals awfully with wireless.

  17. Haha I just noticed the song part at the end. I totally know the song, and I don’t even listen to that kind of music.

Singing along is always a good time, for sure :D
