February 8 2007: Summer Shoes
As Nikki says, what good is a shoe addict’s blog without random bouts of shoe worship?
Well, here’s my shoe-related woes of the moment. I am sadly lacking in a decent pair of summer-coloured shoes to wear when I go out-out (as in, out. At night. With friends. To dark places. With alcohol. And pounding music. And sweaty writhing bodies.).
When shoe-shopping, I tend to be eminently practical, buying outrageously stylish shoes in staid colours. Spike heels in black. Wedges in ebony. Pumps in raven. In short? Shoes in black.
While my shoe situation is more than fine in winter (I pretty much live in dark clothing throughout winter), when it comes to summer…well, I find myself in a situation where I have to make a decision between a ratty pair of Havainas and my white canvas Ked-style fake Keds. Neither of which are particularly suited to a silky summery-green sundress. And thus, I find myself searching desperately for a decent pair of cream-coloured mules to wear when going out.
My search is perhaps impeded by the fact that I am a cheapskate, as evidenced by the fact that I shop for designer clothing on eBay and op-shops, also by the fact that I never buy clothes at the start of the season. I always wait until the end for the stocktale sales, where you can get up to 75% off an item. Compounded with the fact that I now try to only buy flats, or shoes with only a tiny heel (P isn’t that much taller than me, and I’m traditional in the way that I like my men to be taller), it makes my shoe search that much harder.
While these cheapskate tendencies can be dealt with when it comes to clothing (I always manage to find one of my size left), it’s a different story when it comes to shoes. Somehow, it always seems to only be either size 5 (ridiculously small, child-size foot), or size 11 (ridiculously large, Bigfoot-esque foot) left in the shoes that I want.
And so my hunt continues. I search in vain for the perfect pair of cream-coloured shoes to wear out in summer…so um…anyone want to buy me these Steve Maddens or these Jimmy Choos?

Yes. Cause I’m totally going to buy you a pair of 310 pound shoes. Do you know how much I made last week? A little over a tenth of that! But, I do dream of the day I will be able to buy myself (and you, of course :P) whatever shoes I want. I can’t afford a shoe addiction, but I really like shoes!

When I actually go shoe or clothing shopping I never find anything but when I’m in town to buy other stuff that I need I always seem to run into things that I like. So for me searching never helps, unless it’s during sales (which of course is a good thing!)
It’s funny though, you’re blogging about summer shoes and I’m looking out the window at snow falling down from the sky. The gave out a weather alarm today for heavy snowfall…

I’m the same way! When I go out – dedicated to shoe shopping I usually end up buying books, gadgets and home decor… Most of my footwear are bought on impulse… and it shows…

I’m such a cheapskate that I never buy anything. My poor feet always get abused by sandals anyway. Just look at it! ^_^ I’m comfortable in slippers and rubber shoes.

The Jimmy Choos are probably a little more practical but there’s something to be said for the Steve Madden’s, don’t you think?
Either way they’re gorgeous.
I have very small feet (a four to five) so I don’t really have that many shoe troubles. Except many of them are too wide.

I think I tried on those Steve Madden ones at DSW the other day. I love Steve Madden shoes, I just wish I felt like paying $50 for a pair of shoes.

I’ve wanted a nice pair of Jimmy Shoos for ages, but I’m still waiting for someone to give them to me :P

I love Steve Madden shoes in general, but in this case, I think I prefer the Jimmy Choos. They look like something you could wear spring, summer, and autumn. If you get three seasons worth out of them, it’s like a deal!

Those are both so pretty! I do like the Jimmy Choos more, though.
I’m a cheapskate as well… actually it’s more like I don’t have the money to not be a cheapskate :P Hence I’ve never owned a single pair of designer shoes. Note to self: must start making money!
